Default Casino Royale problem

Hi,

I've now had to return 2 copies of Casino Royale because of small glitches in both. The first would freeze during chapter 14 for a about 10 second then continue with content after the "bad spot". No matter what I tried in scanning forward or back it would stop there. And yes the disc was "clean" since it was new and no visible artifacts.

The second copy did the same thing during chapter 1 beginning at the end of the Opening Title Song and would skip to after the they were leaving the camp with the money. Total missing of the sequence about money access, etc. And then in the final chapter it would skip into the end titles right before he would say his name in the signature way, "Bond, James Bond."
Once again no visible artifacts and no scanning forward or back would help.

I've not had this happen with any other BD movie. Using PS3 version 1.82 played the second copy and probably 1.70 played the first BD.

Any others seeing things like this on this title or others? What is interesting that seems to be programmed into the player is that unlike old DVD where you would often see some minor to major pixilation errors the PS3 just holds the last good picture until it finds another complete good picture. I guess this is better.

Thanks

I've probably watched it a dozen times by now as its great demo for company. I am using the sony player ,not the ps3 but have never had a problem with it. Only problem I've had was with a Pearl Harbour freeze when the bomber crashes crashes in China.

Watched 25 times on two different players (see my signature).
No problems ever occured. As a matter of fact it has some scratches on it, but still works without any issues.

Kind of feeling guilty. I have abused it too much. It's my demo to show off BLU-RAY strength

Hi Steve (and welcome!)

I had problems with Casino Royale on my PS3 in about 4 or 5 spots when I first got it as well (including the opening credits). A firmware update fixed all that though and it ran perfectly afterwards (the firmware update was available before the movie was released, but I hadn't downloaded it yet). I haven't tried it since version 1.82 though so I'll try to run it this week and see any problems have reappeared.

I watched my copy again for the 1st time after PS3 1.82 FW update. Still looked great, no freezes, or any problems.

This is One of the best BDs I own

Since it sounds like your problem has happened repeatedly at the same spot on the disc, I doubt this is the case, but it still warrants checking out. Have you tried turning off the network connection on the PS3? Almost every case that I've ever heard of where movie playback is freezing on the PS3 has been related to the wireless connection. Turning the connection off solves the problem.

Casino Royale works like a dream for me. The only disc I ever had an issue with, and I've played quite a number of Blu-rays now, was Corpse Bride. It did something similar to what you are describing, but with another rented version of it, it ran just fine.
