Default Nyko Remote w/Logitech?

http://www.overstock.com/Books-Movie...i_sku=11490936

Does anybody have any experience with using this remote with Logitech universal remotes instead of buying the Logitech PS3 adapter. This seems like the cheaper way to go. Thanks in advance!

I've been using one for a while with my Harmony One. It's not a perfect solution IMO, because it can't power the PS3 on. It can power it off if you go through the steps on the main screen. Other than that it can do everything else. Eventually I'll switch to the PS3 adapter.

Fireman pretty well summed it up. It does everything the PS3 remote does except turn it on. I have it and don't find that to be a huge deal but a lot of people hate that. Not a bad solution if you don't want to spend $55 for the Logitech adapter.

+1

This is my approach too.

It's just such a PITA when you're sitting and already have the blu-ray in the machine and have to get-up and walk 11 feet and then touch the PS3 and then have to walk back! Sucks.

Hey,

Yeah but who leaves the Blu Ray they want to watch "next time" in their PS3?

I usually turn my PS3 on by putting in the Blu Ray I want to watch and turn it off by hand just after ejecting it. So for me the Harmony Adapter adds little value. It does add value though, so I may pick it up eventually.

definately get it, it's nice for the price. Found mine for 10 or 15 bucks at a Gamestop location, or you can get it online. It's really easy to setup on the remote too, your software on your computer already is loaded with Nyko drivers, so within minutes your remote will be good to go for operating the PS3.

hey guys, thanks for all the advice. i think i will get this then. one ? i do have, once you install this device to the ps3, will my logitech 520 then allow me to have option under applications that will say "play dvd/blu ray"? as of now, since the software for logitech doesnt have a watch dvd option that picks up ps3, i do it manually. so if i install the nyko, then my logitech will have the option "watch movie" on the remote screen? just want to make sure nyko will be one of the options i can add with logitechs software. gonna check software when i get home

I used it when I had a PS3. It was OK but there were still several functions that I never could get properly programmed into my Harmony, and frequently found myself pulling out the PS3 controller anyway.

I used the Nyko when I first bought my Harmony One. Now I have the PS3 adapter. When comparing $15 to $60 I think the Nyko is the better value. The adapter does things the Nyko doesn't and it is nice to turn everything on and off with one button, but since the thing needs to be re-paired on a fairly regular basis (necessitating a power cycle of the PS3) I wouldn't say it's such a good deal. I still prefer it to the Nyko, but it's not the end of the world if you don't have it.

Yes it will..just customize the set up as an activity. My activity is labeled "Play PS3/Bluray"

Mine works fine with my 550...yeah you have to turn it on manually, but you have to get up to put it in a blu anyways so no big deal...at least you can turn the ps3 off from your couch.

When you want any other option just hit the "triangle" on the lcd screen and the pop-up menu shows up; just like the controller. Heck, my parents and gf have no problem with it...but hand them the ps3 controller, fear lights up their eyes.

The customer reviews on Amazon have some very insightful info...I read up on there before setting mine up.

Hope it helps,

JAYSONE

Get the Logitech adapter. It's worth the extra $40. The Nyko has to be plugged into your PS3. If your system is not directly in front of you, it becomes quite aggravating. The Logitech is Bluetooth and can be placed anywhere in your room that has direct IR from your remote. I've been much happier since I made this purchase and upgraded from the Nyko. It was a good short term fix but not as nice as the Logitech gear.
