Default Motivational Growth (2013) April 21st, 2015

Looks weird and interesting. For $10, I'm giving it a shot.

Quote:
Ian Folivor, a depressed and reclusive 30-something, finds himself taking advice from a growth in his bathroom after a failed suicide attempt. The Mold, a smooth talking fungus who was born of the filth collecting in a corner of Ian's neglected bathroom, works to win Ian's trust by helping him clean himself up and remodel his lifestyle. With The Mold's help, Ian attracts the attention of a neighbor he's been ogling through his peephole, Leah, and he manages to find a slice of happiness despite his unnatural circumstances. But Ian starts to receive strange messages from his old and broken down TV set that make him realize that The Mold may not be as helpful as it seems to be, and strange characters combined with stranger events cast Ian's life in the shadow of an epic battle between good and evil that Ian is only partially aware of.

It's a very unusual movie. Jeffrey Combs is great at voicing the Mold monster. I also liked the retro videogame sounds that populate the score. It's like a low-budget surreal movie that got influenced by Weird Science and 8-bit video games.

I could see it gaining a cult audience. However, Motivational Growth is certainly not for everyone. I thought they went overboard on how disgusting the main character appears in the first act.

Does anyone have this? Is it a pressed disc, or a BD-R? The Canadian disc definitely is, so would be intersted in grabbing this if it is a pressed disc.

I emailed Parade Deck Films and I was told that all discs are pressed and they always will be. I went ahead and bought a copy. Too bad I just bought the DVD about 3 months ago... I didn't know there was a Blu-ray out.
