Default Blockbuster may close up to 960 stores

Looks like there may be soon up to 960 less Blockbuster stores to rent BLU-RAY movies at if Blockbuster closes almost a 1,000 stores.

Hopefully the one close to my house won't close. I love been able to walk in and grab a movie with the monthly pass.

Not surprised at all over this news. They have lost my business a long time ago. Seems everytime I rented a game/movie from them, they try to push extra services on me every time. I always said "no thanks". But they wouldn't let it go. They demanded to know why I didn't want them and that I'm dumb if I don't go for it. Literally laughing in my face.

RIP

I had the same thing happen to me. I kicked them to the curb long ago. I think it's time for them to go the way of the dinosaur.

hopefully my store is not one of them, only place i will rent from, and by far the most affordable rental choice for blu-ray.

I would use blockbuster a lot more if my local stores didn't change their rates and their hours monthly.

Used to be open until midnight, now they close at 9.

They had one night rentals of blu-rays for $2 for a while, so I jumped on that, but now that's $3...

It changes so much that I never know what to expect there.

We have late fees, we don't, we sort of do. The lack of a real solid business plan will not help the company at all.

Seriously, the dude wouldn't give me my rental (beyond the turnstile) until I told him why I wouldn't go for the deal.

This news isn't really surprising to me. If the two stores within a couple of miles from my house are any indication of their general business, these two haven't been busy at all for the last few years.

Most of the Blockbusters in my area get plenty of customers so it shouldn't be that bad. I still rent from B&M stores with my online access exchange program so this may affect me.

Is it a problem of blockbuster or is it a problem of the whole rental industry? Are people purchasing than renting?

This may sound stupid, but my wife and I stopped enjoying the blockbuster experience a few years back, when blockbuster UK decided to stack the shelves in such a way you couldn't walk right up to the new releases anymore, having to search for ages to find what was new just took too much effort.

We also got tired of feeling ripped because they weren't competitive.

I don't want to see people made redundant – so I hope they can sort themselves out.

I now have all my Blu-ray discs posted by Love film – who are marvelous

Perhaps physical video rental stores losing to Internet rental sites. It is lot easier to search and find in the Internet. But a key problem is you need to plan ahead. Probably it is not a problem for some people.

Netflix for me thanks.

I think I was last in a Blockbuster in the late 80's. At the time they were rude and the current slogan was very arrogant something like "One World" as if they were going to take it over.

Its a Blockbuster problem, people are still renting. There are just smarter ways to rent, and the expansion of cable/satelite services such as On Demand hasn't helped them either.

Perhaps the main competition is from the Internet sites rather than Cable/Satellite services.

i think that a small part of it is due to cable and satellite provider offering more channels and more VOD content. they are a piece of the pie that blockbuster failed to bite into. i dont see how blockbuster is the only video store struggling though. there are a few others out there like hollywood video that have to be in the same boat, maybe they dont have big enough names and therefore wont make the headlines.
