![]() ![]() Cruel Intentions Blu-ray Cruel Intentions Blu-ray Review SO i can see very clear from now and on AVC will be the normal codec for BD.AVC proves its superiority over MPEG2 and VC-1 . After Open Season,Casino Royale,Chicken Little,POTC now,Cruel Intentions and many titles AVC codecs are doing marvelous job for BD. Just keep HD-DVD Fans exclusively and Reviewers from HD-DVD biased point of view impressed and dont believe how BD is not anymore identical to HD-DVD but it exceeds it totally and differently to a new wave of technology.Called "beyond high definition" http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusio...hp?tid/137191/ Last edited by Deciazulado; 09-01-2011 at 09:39 AM. |

High Def Digest has just posted a review for the new Blu-ray edition of the 1999 film "Cruel Intentions" that will hit store shelves on June 12. As a fan of the movie, I am disappointed that the disc apparently offers no real improvement in the picture or sound categories as that would have been nifty. The disc also doesn't even include all of the special features that are present on the DVD version which is disappointing as well.

Look at the reviewer. Wait until someone who is not so much of an HDDVD shill to review the disc.

Yeah no offense but I'd rather watch one of those really really old poorly dubbed Kung Fu movies in HD rather than Cruel Intentions on HD. I think a movie like Cruel Intentions is good enough in Standard Definition. There's no high demand for it on blu-ray. Then again, those are just my opinions.

I would much rather have a very nice BD version of Dangerous Liaisons (will likely be awhile, it's distributed by Warner Bros.). C'mon, who wouldn't want to watch John Malkovich covorting about with Michelle Pfeiffer, Uma Thurman and Glenn Close? Cruel Intentions was a sad little knock-off. Cruel, indeed.

The last sentence in his review appears to contradict the rest of the review. He says the video is good but not reference and the sound is good, but suffers from a dated mix. Then he sums it up by saying it doesn't offer much performance increase over the DVD? Even most bad high def offers some performance improvement over DVD. By that, it sounds as if only absolute reference titles are worth it on his display. Like I've said before, Bracke isn't reviewing Blu-ray or HD DVD. He's reviewing the inadequacies of his setup and apparently his knowledge of his trade. Arrogance is unfortunately something of a necessary prerogative for the reviewer. But with Bracke it seems more than arrogance, whether it's ignorance or something less ethical only he knows. The movie isn't my cup either, but trust me, Sony did an exceptional job with Cruel Intentions. The very opening pan into the city was the only part that didn't show a substantial if not a dramatic improvement over DVD. Fans couldn't have asked for much better, particularly considering the likely age of the master - assuming it wasn't updated just for the BD, which Sony has been known to do. If Bracke sincerely isn't seeing that, I feel sorry for the guy, as there's obviously a LOT he's not seeing. BTW, the only extras the disc lacks are the production notes, filmographies, and trailer. Nothing of real consequence. I don't know why those were omitted. But, everything else is still there. |

What a biased load of crap that review is. He goes on about how the movie seems designed to appeal to paedophiles, but Sarah Michelle Gellar was 22, Reese Witherspoon 23, Selma Blair 27 and Ryan Phillippe 25 in 1999 when this movie came out. Seems to me he's just trying to denigrate the movie because it won't be coming out on HD-DVD.

Dude...for real if you are a fan of the movie, to hell with what that guy said and buy it. So what if it doesn't have all the special features the DVD had, keep the DVD and watch those when you want to. There's no rule that says when you buy a movie on Blu-Ray you have to get rid of the DVD. Enjoy your movie man. ![]() |

Peter Bracke Hates BD and whatever he is thinking of always Likes to criticize BD and destroy the Beautiful image of BD.HIGHDEFDIGEST is a website you cant count on for BD reviews this is so far my experience it is totally Biased HD-DVD.Always Likes VC-1 codec which is an inferior codec to my eyes except for Some titles released by Disney using Higher Bit rate Deja Vu and The queen.
DVDfile.com and Hometheaterspot.com review this title and it is nothing more than an acceptable results even in PQ and SQ. Link: http://www.dvdfile.com/index.php?opt...=6068&Itemid=3 Quote:" The Video: How Does The Disc Look? The film’s theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 is presented in a very pleasing high definition transfer compressed with the AVC video CODEC. The disc is dual-layered and the bit rate is high, which facilitates a high level of detail. Small objects, like print on background objects that remain in the depth-of-field is quite readable. Finely grained textures, like the weave of the clothing also is clearly defined. Color accuracy is almost spot-on, with flesh tones leaning slightly toward pink as my only complaint. Bright colors are vivid without a hint of iridescence; just have a look at the flowers in a scene in the school’s chapel at the end of the film. Shadow detail during nighttime scenes is also excellent. We’re left with a fine, film-like presentation. Do you still saying Cruel Intentions is a disappointing title? Sure its not Another review from Hometheaterspot.com Link: http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusio...m.php?fid/225/ Video:"Sony went back to a single layered disc for Cruel Intentions and dropped the AVC bitrate a little lower than what they’ve been doing with most of their encodings lately. This one appears to average right around 20mbs, which usually proves sufficient even for MPEG-2. I still couldn’t find any evidence of compression. For the most part grain is preserved naturally. There were a couple dark backgrounds where random noise looked a little inconsistent and excessive. But, it was probably the film, as shooting in low light tends to bring out emulsion. The only thing there is to question about the disc is some rare inconsistency in resolve. But, considering its age; I kind of doubt that Sony could have done much more. Like I said, detail holds up surprisingly well even against the best we’ve seen today" What do you think now still a dissapointing one and more reviews to come Last edited by Scorxpion; 05-30-2007 at 07:14 AM. |

Did not think the movie was that great to begin with. I think the could have spent their time putting a better movie on blu-ray.

In Chad I trust, Hometheater Spot and he gave it 4.5 paws. Its not a movie for me but I still read all reviews. I like to think Sony is doing it right, its their baby . I always read what Bracke has to say but don't base my opinions on quality on his remarks. If he says 4,stars then its probably better.

Another Review from upcomingdiscs.com Prove that PQ of Cruel Intentions is very Good..
Link: http://www.upcomingdiscs.com/dvd_rev...type=disc_type Video For this transfer, Sony went with a Blu-ray 50 GB disc (BD50) and an AVC 1.85:1 encode, averaging around 28- 32 Mbps. This transfer is nothing short of great, especially for a film now 10 years old. This film exhibited little to no film grain and the transfer was absent of any type of film debris. Much of this film involves dark or night scenes, all of which look superb as well. Flesh tones were spot-on and detail was excellent. This transfer also presented no noise to my eye, a welcomed attribute for several bright scenes in the film. Colors were absolutely stunning and vibrant with this transfer. Overall this new Blu-ray transfer is a substantial upgrade over the DVD version of this film. |

Forget Bracke. He and that whole site is so biased against Blu-ray it's unbelievable. If you like that movie, by the BD. I personally have had it pre-ordered forever. There's no way I'm going to miss Selma Blair and Sarah Michelle Gellar french kissing in High-Def.
