Analyst Micheal Pachter said on Monday that Microsoft will, in fact, reduce the price of the Xbox 360 tomorrow at the start of the company's E3 press briefing. He believes the $299 Core will drop to $249; the $399 Premium to drop to $349; and the newly released $479 Elite to drop to $399 in response to lower-than-expected sales of all three systems.
Somehow I don't think that saving $50 is going to cause people forget the reliability issue.

I just don't understand the point of MS continuing to sell the Premium version now that the Elite is in full production swing. Particularly with the reliability issues, most of which are fixed with the Elite.

But the funny part here is that when MS first announced the Elite this spring, they said they would sell it at a "reduced $499 price point" and then RAISE the price after that initial discount. Looks like they had to change their tune.

Of course it's nothing new. Existing console prices ALWAYS drop when E3 comes around, because it gives them another reason to write another press release.

I think MS will have trouble moving 360s because of what the extended warranty implies. On the other hand, PS3 has no such issues. 360 is gonna die next Christmas.

^^ Yup, until MS redesigns the innards and perhaps, as a sweetener, moves to the 65nm chip, people are gonna have a hard time trusting it.

Even with the warranty, repair downtime is still a pain.

I'm surprised they didn't put it at $100 to keep the price difference the same with the PS3.

From the article: Microsoft: "content is king"

Then why do you support HD DVD?

They dont really care about HD-DVD. There always pushing there movie online service. I think they help HD because they know blu-ray is better and they want both to go away.

Microsoft will drop before Halo 3, there is absolutely no doubt

If they drop to $299 for the premium, they will hit Nintendo hard, because pretty pictures beat gimmick every time, and will again successfully cut Sony off at the knees with the pricing.

If they want to hold onto and solidify their lead so that the wars end up with them and Sony neck and neck, that's what they need to do.
