Default Should I change my 7.1 to a 6.1 with a rear bipole

I'm currently running a 7.1 system in a less then optimal setup living room (TV in a corner). Because of this setup my two rear speakers are directly behind one chair. (Sorry for the big picture)

Everything sounds good, but when sitting in the chair in the corner the rear channels can be distracting. When sitting on either of the couches some rear effects can be lost. I have thought of repositioning the speakers but after doing some research I think changing to a 6.1 with a bipole in the middle behind the chair parrallel to the TV might offer the best solution. Any thoughts on this? Can someone recomend a good speaker that would work with my current system? I am thinking one with mids and tweets on both sides firing towards the walls would work well. I think the other problem I'm going to run into is finding a place to buy only one speaker

You could put your 6 and 7th speaker at ear level behind the couch facing up or something but since you apparently don't want to put a speaker obstructing the window (my guess) I'd go to 5.1.

I already have everything wired and set up for 7.1 so I'm trying to get the best sound with what I have. If changing to one rear bipole instead of the two rears will help the sound field then I may consider doing that, otherwise I will just leave things as they are.

Going to a Bipole Speaker will help with the Overall sound dispersion for the rear surrounds,as compared to 2 front firing speakers side by side(but it wont fix every issue because of its mounting position).

There are several great models for a reasonable price, but, yes, finding just 1 can be a problem.
I will have a look and see who is selling individual Bipolar Speakers.

Thanks for the help. I know the mounting isn't the best, but it's all I can do at the moment.

One Speaker Option:

Sadly only one that comes to mind right now.But I am sure another speaker choice or another mounting option will make itself known.

That is exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. How do you like your S-2's?

Here is what I was waiting to find.
A good Bipole Speaker at a reasonable price.

Plus with it having dual voice coils,it will still be like you have 2 speakers for your Rear Surrounds/But give you the Advantage of a Bipolar Speaker:

I LOVE my S-2's.

I started with just one pair as my side surrounds and a pair of Polk M10's as my rear surrounds. After hearing the Amazingly Enormous Difference in the soundfield that happens by adding bipolar speakers,I bought a second pair just about a week later for the rears.
The surround soundfield fills the entire room.
NO dead spots or areas where it seems the surround effects are just not heard.

I Personally LOVE Bipolar Surround Speakers.

I am definitely going to try it with my rears, I just need to shop around for a speaker. I think I may try ebay and see if I can find a single, the Def Tech you posted looked like it might just do the trick. I'm not so sure about the dual voice coil BIC's from amazon

Aperion Audio sells individual factory-direct bipole surround speakers. Aperion speakers are very good.

I believe you can buy Klipsch surrounds individually as well. I know for certain that (at least some models) come boxed individually so I don't see why you would have to buy two. Personally I would try to go with a Polk biopole since the rest of your speakers are Polk. Have you tried contacting Polk to see if you can get only one?

I'm trying to find a set that has matching speakers on each side (ie: one mid and one tweet_like the Infinity above) I would think to get an even soundstage to all the seating areas this would be the best setup . Most of the polks have the midrange on only one side. The one that would work is the LSiFX, but at nearly $1000 for a pair they cost as much as all my other speakers put together. Even if Polk would sell me one I still think it would be out of my price range. I think the Klipsch RS42 would be a good choice, and I see they can be purchased individually.
