Default What mood of home theater do u like?

By this I mean you could have a super cozy home theater room with lots of earth tone colors and some dim lights etc or do you like to have pitch black room with nothing but screen being visible when you are watching your movies. Different strokes for different folks. What is your fav?

I got the "hybrid HT/usable living room" thing going on. I have a lot of earth tones, and some vibrant red for some pop. I've got black out curtains so it gets pretty dark in the day and it can be pitch black at night.

Well, my home theater room is still a work in progress; that's why I haven't posted any photos of it yet. But I LOVE modern furniture so I plan on mixing dark and light earth tones (for the walls and area rug) and eye popping red seating to go with all of that BLACK audio/video equipment. Thanks for asking!!

Mine's currently a hybrid living room/theater room with a 8ft screen that comes down over the picture window. So when it's theater it's dark - rest of the time it's a living room.

My room has two rows of reclining eather seats wall sconce lights on a dimmer and black velvet curtains around the screen. I was going for an true theater look. Wall colors are dark but not black.

My home theater room is still a work in progress, so I haven't added anything to the gallery yet. It is a combination home theater room / game room, and will eventually have the theater area, wet bar, and billiards / poker table area. The room colors are definitely made of earth tones, with a rich brown on the bottom and a rustic gold on top divided by a movie themed border. Right now, I'm in the middle of painting the walls before adding the border. My Berkline theater seats are dark brown, so the paint should compliment the seats, and my deep brown media cabinets nicely.

As for movie viewing, once the film rolls, the room is dark. I have thick theater style red curtains over the windows, and they offer complete light control. I just upgraded my front speakers in anticipation of the change, from small towers to large standmounters, and they sound incredible. I really want to get the room finished soon. Hopefully, I'll start posting pictures soon.

ideally i would like to have a dedicated room, but until that day, it will have to serve as a theater/living room. i dont like watching movies in patch black either. My eyes are really sensitive to light, to the point that i rarely watch the previews in the theater cause they always LOVE to make everything a strobe effect and it kills my eyes. So i like to have some sort of ambient light in the room. I also think that bright colors are horrible for theater rooms, some people pull them off but i think darker colors work best.

Question

depends on the movie and my mood. Sometimes candles set a good mood vs pitch black as well.

My southwest-flavored 'Fortress of Solitude' is decidedly cozy & cluttered with clay-colored walls...I reside in the Great White North in Alberta, but LOVE all things 'southwest'. My H/T setup is part of a multi-purpose main living area located in a small half-duplex. My pj sits in the kitchen and fires past a small dining area to my screen (20ft away) at the end of the living room. Those who are inclined are welcome to check out my gallery....cheers, Matt. Btw, kudos to the OP for starting this thread

Pitch black may be the best performance wise but in my humble opinion, I'd rather find some sort of balance between good viewing environment and something pleasing when the light turn back on. Odds are that black wall will make the room look smaller and more claustrophobic…

Most movie theaters have their lamps on; they're just dimmed low.

well other lighting gives a pleasant feeling pre and post movie viewing. but during movie viewing your eyes should be deemed to stare at the screen. to many anything else on in the room is distracting from the experience.

Specially if your projecting and require certian lighting conditions.
