Yeah, there's a rumor on the playstation forum on this, that it will be the 1.9 update, but no true conformation yet.

Hmm...I've always been able to play music while browsing the internet or looking at pictures. That's strange. I wonder what I'm doing that you guys aren't.

Even though something like this would be easy to fake, rarely do you actually see it done this well so I think this may be genuine.

You can, while the music's playing hit the 'PS' button and you can navigate the XMB and open photos, in slideshow views if you wish.

Dang, see, I learned something new today. That PS button is a magical thing. I relly need to try it more often. I kept getting up to turn off the system if it was in the menu instead of holding the PS button down...

i luv my ps3. lets me be lazy. now i just need to find out a way to load the games and movies in on its own.... hmm.

As Shin-ra said, just hit the PS button when in any of those things, and it will throw you back to the XMB. I hope this is how in-game XMB will work someday .

One thing that worries me is the volume level. Looks like you can only choose a song from there... and not have any control over the volume? That would be a real pain trying to find a comfortable volume where you can hear your music and game.

i know about getting back to the xmb....try going to BD/DVD settings while playing music...it will stop....and i was just saying...thats always been annoying

I'd imagine you'd get a whole new page of options once you choose 'Select Music'.

that would certainly be nice. they haven't half-assedly done anything in regards to firmware updates so far, so i'd agree with you on that

I think this is how you would enter the XMB from a game:

You push the PS button:

Quit Game
Reassign the Controller
Adjust Screen Settings
Select Music
Go to XMB
Turn off System
Turn off controller


Or, even better:


Quit Game > To XMB

Reassign the Controller > Select Controller

Adjust Screen Settings > Adjust Screen

Select Music > Music Folders > Select Track

Inbox > Inbox Messages

Sent > Sent Messages

Create Message > Create Message > Select (up to 12) Buddy(s) to send to

Start new chat > Buddy List

Buddy List > Buddy List

Turn off System
Turn off controller

Has anyone noticed that everytime there's a firmware update rumor, the update takes rarely longer than a week to be available? I hope I'm right on this one but it could be out sooner than we think.

I can’t verify that the ‘your music’ screen is real. It’s obviously not a great shot, and I was at just about every kiosk during E3 and didn’t see anything like that on any unit we had there, and yes, I helped set them up, so I would definitely have seen it. I think it is an artists creative expression for what they want..We will definitley have more info on the firmware updates here very soon.
