Default Any rumors of a new release of the original Night at the Museum?

Has anyone heard if the studio has any plans of releasing a new transfer of Night of the Museum when the sequel comes out? I've heard the pic quality of the original was pretty bad for blu.

Video looked fine to me, I don't remember reading any negative reviews - who told you it was bad?

I seriously doubt they are going to re-do it.

It got a pretty bad review on this site and a couple others. I understand that they used an older encode method as well.

Well, Fox promised a new Alien vs Predator to be released alongside Aliens vs Predator: Requiem. This new AVP was touted to have a BD-Live game called Alien vs Predator vs You.

Then around March of 2008, Fox stated that the new AVP Blu-ray would be released about six months after AVP: R.

So I'm not holding my breath for Fox to redo any titles on Blu-ray Disc for awhile.

All things being constant in the universe so will be the inevitable "super deluxe, unrated, director's cut, extended version with all-new cast and crew interviews, behind-the-scenes spotlights, hilarious outtakes, and never seen before footage all wrapped up in a highly collectible limited edition package".

The original was IMO a solid basic Blu-ray release. My family (and son especially) still enjoy watching this movie today but with more and more new releases coming out, repurchasing this one is by no means a priority.

I think the review on this site was a bit hard on the transfer, and even still it's not that bad. They did give the PQ 3 stars, after all.

Most other reviews were much more favorable.

I have to ask, since you are asking about a new transfer - have you even watched the disc?

Here's the PQ portion of Ben's review. Normally I don't disagree with many of the reviews here and I haven't watched this disc since I got my new set, but I am not seeing what he's seeing:

Night at the Museum is also a bit of a mixed bag regarding its video transfer. Many of the special effects shots have a very artificial look to them and I found the entire film to have a very strange grittiness to it. The picture quality varies from extremely slick to downright nasty. Grain is heavy throughout and contrast varies considerably from shot to shot. Colors are also strangely rendered with a decided lack of consistency throughout the movie. Mr. Stiller is perhaps the most ill-treated character in the film as his skin tone changes repeatedly throughout. He is occasionally very splotchy and pale and at other times he looks like he’s been in a tanning bed for about a week. It’s really quite distracting. On the brighter side, fine detail can be exceptional and I didn’t notice even the slightest trace of banding. I’m torn as how to rate Night at the Museum, as I didn’t experience the film theatrically. Perhaps the massive amount of effects work in the film affected its final picture, but I have to believe that problems of this magnitude would have been fixed in post-production.
I think the coloring of the movie is a little "hot" but never really was distracted by any grain. I think they just cranked up the contrast a bit on the release. I would've given it a solid 4 myself from memory. Maybe Ben'll stop by and post his thoughts. I think it looks good- I don't have a high bar for comedies/kids movies and thought it was worth a purchase.
