Default Suspiria - 2018 remake

This finally comes out this week or is already out, locally on bluray and dvd. A remake of the 1977 Dario Argento classic.

Was wondering, I missed seeing this at the cinema last year when it played, is it worthy of a blind purchase? I loved the original, this remake seems to be a longer film by nearly a hour, and got some mixed reviews, even with a thom yorke(radiohead lead singer) soundtrack.

I got just over 60 minutes in and then I stopped it. Wasn't enjoyable at all. Genuinely felt like a chore to watch. It took 35 minutes before anything remotely interesting began to happen. Round about the time some witches were laughing at a man's exposed penis, I lost all patience for it. The incredibly boring cinematography didn't help much either. btw Love the original film.

My favourite film of 2018, but definitely not a film for everyone

Can anyone confirm if our local release has a Dolby Atmos track? 3 Retailers are listing is as a DTS HD-MA track which I suspect is correct. If not I will be importing from the US.

It's through Transmission so no doubt it will be bare-bones with 5.1 audio.

I was ripped apart on the boards for not loving the film. My biggest complaint was that it seemed to be created as a mini series for Amazon Prime. Then cut to a "Feature length", that was too long and just not interesting enough to justify the over two hour running time! Some of the original ideas were great but, the film lacked a cohesive vision and pacing was absent.

I had argued in a vain hope that my opinion was mislead and I would be swayed to love this film, it did not happen.

I think it’s a shame people can’t have a different opinion it seems these days.
I just saw a film which I thought was average at best but it seems online you have to like this film or be considered “a troll”

Yeah, I quite liked it myself too. Yes it was long and slow paced, but I found it a hell of a lot more enjoyable and satisfying than Hereditary which I hated.

My BF and I recently watched the Suspiria remake on Vudu. Overall, we did not like it. I didn't mind the length and slow pacing, but
[Show spoiler]the ending was too weird/out there.
We felt similar about Hereditary - really liked the first half or 3/4, but not the ending.

I don't regret watching those movies, but I'm not going to add them to my collection.

Side note: I haven't seen the original Suspiria and went in to the remake not knowing what to expect (I like to be surprised). I still may try to see the original at some point, for comparison sake and since it has good reviews.

I'd certainly highly recommend the original film. It looks beautiful and has a great atmosphere. Couldn't be more different to the dance-focused 2018 version!

I absolutely adored the Thom Yorke score, and the overall setting.

The original is far better of course, but this is different enough for me to look at it in its own light.

Wouldn't call it a remake, more of a reimagining (I guess?). It's pretty different to the original.

The stunt casting (no spoilers) took me out of the film every time a certain character appeared. It was so obvious that it was a constant distraction.

I watched this, but I doubt I would buy this one to own and would not recommend blind buying. That's not to say its a bad film by any stretch, but this is an acquired taste and not for all so best to check it out before committing to it.

Does this release have the burnt-in stylized English subtitles for the German/French lines? Also, are there any screenshots of this release?

Yes, I think the Aussie release is like the U.S. transfer, so it is the best one.
