Default PIP hook up on Kuro?

Wondering if anybody can help me here. I run everything into the Kuro (input 6) on a single HDMI from my receiver. I assume the HDMI will only carry one input signal, so I need to run a second analog input to the Kuro (input 2) direct from my cable box and bypass the receiver. However, when I do that, I can't figure out how to get the Kuro to recognize both inputs. The manual say very little about it.

Taking a guess here since I don't have a Kuro. Almost every TV has an option to turn on/off different inputs. Search under menu, settings, input assignments, or whatever you have that's close to that.

What do you mean recognize both inputs? It won't recognize them at the same time if that's what you mean. The Picture in Picture only works when you use the tv channels not with the cable box. It won't show (external) separate sources in PIP.

Are you saying the only way to use PIP is to run the cable coax directly into the TV? And that you cannot do PIP with a DVD in one screen and the TV channel in the other? If so, that's kind of worthless.

I know my Panny plasma does not allow for PIP. Assuming your Kuro does, try looking on the remote for some sort of "PIP input" button. My old Mitsubishi had a simple button that would scroll through all available inputs once the PIP was enabled. Using that TV I could watch cable at the same time as a DVD/Xbox/VCR etc.

Yes. It has PIP. I can easily activate the PIP mode. One screen works. One is dark. I cannot find any way to select a different input for the 2nd screen.

After doing some searching it looks like it either can't be done or it
might be under advanced pip settings. Sorry I can't be more help.

I believe this issue came up on AVSForum when I first got my tv. It seems that you can't do PIP with 2 external sources i.e. cable box and dvd. One channel has to be the ota or tv tuner. I believe that's how it works. I'm not sure about hooking the cable up to the tv. That may work. I'll look for the thread for you and post it when I find it. That forum is very convoluted but there is some excellent info over there if you have the patience to sort through it all.

I read on the Pioneer websight that the PIP feature allows you to watch a blu-ray on one screen and watch the ballgame on the other. That is exactly what I had in mind. Only problem is I can't figure out what to plug in to what and how to get everything to display,

Try plugging the coax cable line directly into the TV. If you don't already have it set up, you might need to get a coax splitter...one line to the cable box, one line to the TV.

I will try that. I also have sent an email to Pioneer asking for help. If no answer in a day or two, I will call them.

I haven't tried this on my KURO yet but it is a curious discussion.

One thing I will say is that my KRP-500m doesn't have a tv tuner so plugging in the coax is not an option.

If it is similar to my computer monitor then the two sources have to be at the same resolution. Perhaps that is the same case with this.

My friend just uses PIP on his cable box but of course that means on tv and tv can be viewed. There is no option to view blu-ray and tv at the same time.

Interesting to know how this turns out.

I have a Kuro 111fd and can confirm that PIP works. When I use it, I have my OTA connected to my COAX input directly into the monitor. Then I use one of my HDMI connectors (input 4) for ATT Uverse. There is a button on the remote for PIP and that is where to start. Since I am at work and cannot look at my remote right now, I cannot confirm exactly how to switch from the many inputs to get to the two that you are trying to watch simultaneously, but I know it works.

This past weekend, I watched the NFL Redzone channel thru Uverse and the local game via OTA at the same time. Good times.

Good luck!

Yes PIP works but one channel has to be OTA. Can't be from two external sources i.e. cable box and dvd player. That is what he was trying to do originally.

Anyway, you answered his question as to whether he had to hook up his coax directly to the tv to get it to work. The answer to that question is yes based on your experience.

To the OP I hope this is clear.

Got it. Thanks. I also did get a response from Pioneer via email. They said the PIP only works when the TV's internal tuner supplies one of the signals. Therefore, the coax must go directly into the TV to provide the signal for the internal tuner. That is a bit of an inconvenience. I really need the coax to go into the cable box to get HD channels to the TV. I will try a coax splitter but I fear it will dilute the signal and prevent some channels from being received. I could also use an external antenna (yuck) to provide the second signal for local channels. Oh well. Thanks again for your help!
