Default Pioneer Pro 1010HD??

I never heard of this display until a few days ago. It's an older Elite model (720p). Does anyone have this model? If so, your thoughts on it would be most appreciated.

I am seriously thinking about scooping this model up @ $1000 (display model) along with a KRP 500M. It works out just a couple of hundred dollars more than I was originally planning to spend on the calibrated/controlcal 500M for valueelectronics, plus I can pick them up locally. I'm feeling uneasy about having the 500M come from out of state....especially after Sarge's experience with his cracked 500M arriving. That would just suck after already waiting several weeks for break-in/calibrating.

Do you think that $1000 for a used older model Elite is a good deal...or should I just stick with the 500M????

500M for sure. To me why would you buy a used model that is out dated. The difference in PQ will be drastically different. Have you searched local HT stores in your area? Search for small shops in your area first call them and ask them if they can order a 500M for you.

I'm definately getting the 500M either way. They have about 10 of those currently in stock. I was just wondering if the 1010 was worth the $1000. It would be a secondary panel for the bedroom. I would be sitting about 9 feet from it. The 500M would sit in the den about 7 1/2 feet.

Originally I had a 500M reserved with controlcal/calibration included ...along with a stand and warranty. It worked out to like $2800 (before shipping). I would guess it would have been right @ $3000 total.

The total of both the 500M (just panel w/stand and 2 year warranty) and 1010 comes to like $3170 total. Very negligable difference in price for 2 Pioneer panels was my initial thinking. Of course, the 500M won't have the ISF day/night settings nor will it be calibrated like the one i had originally reserved.

I'm debating on whether I should put a deposit down to hold that 1010 model or not. i won't be able to afford either until the 20th of this month.

Sorry miss read your post. Have you seen the 1010 in action?

I got my 500M locally for 1650 that's with tax. I would think for 3100 you could get two 500M's.

The only way I can get a KRP for under $2000 is shipped from somewhere. I could order two for about $3500-3600. That's the problem, i'd have to have it shipped and risk getting a cracked glass.

They want $2000 with 2 year warranty for the 500M locally. At this price it will cost me about $4300 for 2 KRPs with the needed tabletop stands. I won't be using one all that much, anyways.

I don't know, I think I'd better hold off on the sending a deposit for the used 1010. I may not like it or it could be scratched up or something.

$2000 for the KRP-500M locally is not a bad deal at all. I wouldn't get the other set though. If I'm not mistaken its a 5th Gen set and you will not get anywhere near the blacks you can get now. You'd be better off buying a Panasonic 42" X1 on the cheap and you'll get a much better picture for less money and new at that.

Yeah, I'm not to familier with the 1010. You could probably get a 1080P plasma for around $1K. Get the 500M for $2K, you can always buy a stand from VE for $99. Or just spend all the money on a 60" like a 600M or 151

[QUOTE=lojack1976;2401638] If I'm not mistaken its a 5th Gen set and you will not get anywhere near the blacks you can get now. [QUOTE]

I did not know that. I figured because it was an Elite model, that it would still be superior to the most other plasmas as far as the pq and black levels were concerned. I'm glad I asked before I impulsively sent a deposit. I know the Panasonics have come a long way with their plasmas. I have an older Panasonic plasma already but I've seen the newer G10/V10 models that blew mine away. Mine still looks okay, don't get me wrong but it seems like the blacks have gotten somewhat lighter over time. It's not "charcoalish" or grey like most LCDs, but lighter than it was 4 years ago. I wonder how well these newer pannys will retain their black levels in the future. We'll see.

I'm just going to get the 500M and put the rest towards my audio funds for the future. I figure some RF 63's will go nicely with my new panel.

Thanks to all that responded. The salesman will be calling tomorrow to see if I wanted him to hold that 1010 and I'll just have to respectfully decline.

That sounds like a great idea. Good audio will definitely take up some resources. You can always get the other TV later, and like I said the Panny X1 is a good budget set. There are some other good options out there too and I wouldn't be in any rush. There will probably be some crazy deals over the holidays.
