Thumbs up List of Non-Region A Blu-rays that have better PQ/SQ/etc.

certain imported Blu-Rays are "better" in audio or visual quality. i'm talking about MOVIE only, not bonus content/extras/etc.

i just thought i'd start a list here to keep a track (mostly for my own self) so that i don't make the mistake of buying a crappy region A transfer... when i know there are better quality versions out there. 2bad i've made that mistake MANY a times already

i'll try to make it alphabetical

oh and don't fret, here's a list of what the REAL region info of current Blu-Ray releases are:
http://bluray.liesinc.net/index.php?region=b

so you can import region free copies w/confidence.

will update w/links to screen comparisons when i find it.

A History of Violence UK > US
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...8#post16574398

Babel Japanese BD > All

Band Of Brothers Japanese BD probably > A

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind Japanese BD > All

Face Off Japanese > A

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly Italian > A (BUT there is no English audio AND no ENG subtitles)

Good Night And Good Luck UK probably > A

Happy Feet most other regions have lossless LPCM or TrueHD > A

JCVD UK > A

Memento Spanish Import > A

Pan's Labyrinth UK > A

Payback UK (contains BOTH DC&Theatrical versions!) > A

Terminator 2, UK/Jap > A

Terminator 3, UK has lossless audio > A (US doesn't)

Total Recall. Studio Canal UK Edition is transferred from a better quality source (also used to ink the original French HD DVD). see comparison here:
http://chidragon.thedessie.com/bdcom...mp/trcomp.html

Transporter 1. Region B-locked =(. German/Japanese edition has uncut version (just 24 seconds):
http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparison....php?fid=10220
but PQ is much improved.

Transporter 2. Region B-locked =(. German/Japanese edition has extended cut:

I'm very interested in Seven and From Dusk Till Dawn. I want those blu's, but I'm afraid of them not being up to par.

THE THING
USA Blu-ray disc is single layered, audio commentary and Picture in Picture.
UK Blu-ray is dual layered, audio commentary and a TON of extras. But only the UK fat Blu-spine.:P

Guess which one I'll be buying?

hmmm... animeonblu, good list. perhaps we should combine forces. but my list is very specific, an example is Total Recall Region A sux. do NOT buy it, buy Region B for example.

yours is more here are the technical spex of worldwide releases. if you feel like you want to make your thread more specific, like: Region B is better on this title vs. other titles... then let's combine. but i think my thread's purpose is a bit diff. =).

guicao, thanks for feedback but i'd need links to screenies like i sorta' provide =P. i'd like to have it backed up by facts wherever i can and the ones i dont have up there i'll be searching for links to prove one thing or another.

ray, is the thing UK a DIFFERENT encode for the movie only .m2t? meaning if Region A is only 20GB, will the UK movie only .m2t file be 30-40GB? is it really that big a diff.? i'm only talking about movie content predominately, not just bonus.

If the point of this thread is to identify which BD releases have better PQ/SQ than their US counterparts, then this example doesn't really apply because, as I understand it, is has the same transfer and audio.

Also the Italian The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly may indeed have better PQ, but its lack of English subtitles make it a non-stater for most.

I'm pretty sure it has neither English audio nor subtitles.

The UK version of Terminator 3 has lossless audio and the US version has DD.

I haven't heard anything about that. I hear it's a solid transfer though. I'll probably import it sooner or later. The only reason I never bought the US release was the lossy audio.

The Watchmen theatrical cut distributed by Paramount overseas has a higher bitrate AVC encode.

I've also heard that the import of American Psycho has superior pic quality of the domestic release.

American Psycho is a tricky title, because there are several different editions of it from around the world. At the present moment I believe the Australian copy is considered the one to purchase.
