Canada The Wizard of Oz - $41.95 - Amazon.ca

I just came across a page featuring The Wizard of Oz on Blu-ray for $41.95. The regular price is $59.99. This is obviously a pricing error as there are two of them on Amazon.ca

The other one is priced at $65.95 while the MSRP is $94.99.

This is the one priced at $41.95

http://www.amazon.ca/The-Wizard-of-O...dp/B002KGMDLQ/

This is the one priced at $65.95

http://www.amazon.ca/The-Wizard-of-O...dp/B002KGMDKM/

Both are set to be released on the 29th of September. To my knowledge, there is only one release of The Wizard of Oz coming out on Blu-ray on that date. So I'm going to take a chance and pre-order the one at $41.95.

Currently, it is priced at $58.99 on Amazon.com, so this is definitely a pricing error.

The two disc special edition DVD is released on that date according to Amazon.com, but the list price is only $24.98. Perhaps Amazon.ca is listing that as an import for the lower price of the two in the first post, but has listed it as a blu in error?

Very weird for sure. No harm in preordering until it is made clear.

Pre-ordering from amazon is always a safe thing to do - especially when it might be error. It`s easy to cancel at any time. Personally I`m not sure I even want more than a movie only release of this but i`ll keep this pre-order for now until I decide.

Thanks to the OP.

They say the value of money doubles every 7 years and the movie is 70 years old.

So $42 is really 4 cents back in 1939.

Not a movie I have ever liked. But I am sure millions will love it. This is what blu is all about - restoring classics like this. I hope the fans get a worthwhile release.

Nice work by the OP.

I cancelled mine and ordered from the UK instead for 1/2 the price. Also ordered Gone With The Wind and North by Northwest.

Just received from first amazon UK order today (Monster's Inc., Great Expectations, and HSM1) with no complaints and cheap - 5 business days and no taxes or duty. Thanks to steve for the amazon UK advice.

Cool.

The duty is hit or miss. Glad you weren't charged.

I'm considering Monsters Inc., The Italian Job 40th Anniversary, Escape From New York, and Batman returns.

Default Different editions in Canada?

I think these are actually two different releases of the BD - I noticed it first at Future Shop the other day, and I think it might be a Canada-only release.

When I ordered it, it was labelled the Wizard of Oz Emerald Edition, but the link now just shows Wizard of Oz, and a graphic of a regular BD case

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...07&catid=27901

Then they also have the super-deluxe version

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...09&catid=27901

Both of them are priced in line with Amazon.ca's two prices too

I have always wondered why these "classic" movies cost SO MUCH more than other BluRays, Casablanca, woodstock etc.

ah easy, the movies are timeless, and they can charge more because they know people will buy them. its easy to say 50 bucks for wizard of oz is alot but i mean, its the wizard of oz, you have to.

think about the age group buying these movies, im 24 and buying it and im sure there are moms dads who are in their 40's wanting it etc.

luckily i dont like any of these oldies so i wont have to pay that ridiculous pricetag for them. but i often have TONS of customers come into my store and buy 30-40 dollar disney movies and classics just for their kids etc. not saying i agree with it, but i definitely understand it.

i myself have only seen bits and peices of wizard of oz, grease, never seen its a wonderful life
