HDCD Decoding? - Blu-ray Forum

Hey Guys -

Sorry to ask yet another question, however, Denon's customer service is closed right now and wanted to ask the pros' of the pros'

Does the Denon 3800 play & decode HDCD's?

Also, I see there are regular HDCD's and then theres those expensive HDCD's that say something like 24K gold HDCD (by extreme fidelity)... Will there be any noticable difference in these 2 HDCD's?

Just asking as regular HDCD is $12.00 and the 24K extreme Fidelity HDCD is $30.00

I do not have the 3800 per se, but all the recent Denons I have owned are capable of HDCD decoding. As for the second question, are you referring to Audio Fidelity releases, some of which happen to be HDCD's? Or are you talking about XRCD?

I believe its audio fidelity,ah, yes, you ar correct, audio fidelity. Whats the difference between the regular HDCD's and these gold 24K so say HDCD's?

another example is: I was planning on getting an HDCD of "the cars", but there is a regular HDCD and one of the gold 24K "audio Fidelity" HDCD as well, whats the difference?

The Audio Fidelity gold releases are all top-notch masterings and distinct from the regular cd masterings. Almost without exception, they are the best way to hear a particular album on cd. Here is the cheapest place to order it from, for $17.38. Shipping is free if you order over $30.

I just found out that the Denon 3800 does not decode HDCD, since denon said quote unquote, "No, this unit was designed without the decoders for HDCD since it's no longer a standard format being used."

Although I know that my A/V receiver 4308 does.

My question to you guys is, " can someone recommend me on how to play this with the denon 3800 still, or am I stuck on having to get a new cd player just for HDCD?
