Default Backing up PS3 files

Im sorry if this was asked before (and it prolly was) but i tried searching for it and couldnt find the thread.

Can anyone walk me through backing up my PS3 files? .. like as far as WHAT needs to be backed up and HOW to back it up .... i also know that the DL games and DL content i paid for can be DL again for free but i dont even know how to go about doing that.

So can anyone walk me through the process and explain it to me as if i had no clue what was what? ... because i really am clueless about this.

To do a full backup, go into Settings -> System Settings -> Backup Utility -> Backup your PS3 onto an external hard drive. Depending on how much media you have this can take a lot of space.
This method will back up pretty much everything: music, videos, game saves, etc. But it will NOT backup ANY copy protected files (some game saves, music, etc). (By the way, you do a Restore by pretty much the same method except click Restore System instead of Backup System).

You can also back up individual game saves by plugging in a USB drive and going to the Game save (Game -> Game Saves) and pressing -> Copy. Again, this will NOT work on ANY copy protected files.

Finally, to re-download purchased content/DLC go to the Playstation Store and in the top right corner there is an icon called "Download List" or something like that. Click on that and it will list all of the content you've downloaded from the store (purchased or free). Just click on whatever you want to redownload. Remember this can be done as many times as you want on up to 5 PS3 systems.

Yep anytime. Only some game saves are copy protected but it's a major pain in the ass.

Actually, if you're doing a full system backup you MIGHT be able to backup those protected game saves...however you can't restore those protected saves onto a DIFFERENT PS3. Restoring onto the same system may work. I only tried moving the save (Killzone 2 is the only copy protected save I have) to a different system so I couldn't say for sure.
