Default what is: framed transfer and picture calibration?

I read the reviews and see "framed transfer" what does that mean? Does it mean it has black bars?

Oh yeah, what does picture callibaration do to the PQ on blus? How does one control it?

Thanks guys!

"framed transfer" means that the film has been framed in an specific shape in the transfer to disc, usually at, or very close to, the Original theatrical Aspect Ratio (OAR) which is the shape the particular film format the movie was made in, and shown in theaters.

Picture calibration optimizes the display's picture to look as closely as the disc producers made it, following picture standards, so it should make most Blus look at their best. There's a few threads on how to calibrate your display (or speakers too) etc.
