Default Scanavo Questions and Answers

Hello Everyone,
I have made contact with a representative from Scanavo who is more than happy to answer any questions you may have concerning the the SteelBook market in general. Hes from the North American Market out of Canada and will be speaking directly to you in this thread. His name is Rob.

Please treat him with respect and we will follow the same guidelines from the insider threads . He can only provide certain information about upcoming titles due to agreements with studios.

A couple misconceptions I learned today were all blu-ray SteelBooks for NA are produced in Denmark and imported to Canada/US. There is a plant in Ohio however it only does DVD SteelBooks at the moment. They are looking at adding a line down the road.

Also the new Iron case is non existent...Its a Star metal Pak

Please keep the chatter to a minimum as hes going to subscribe to this thread to answer your Questions

I have some questions.

1) regarding Jumbo Steelbooks - some changes have been made since the German/Italian Fast and Furious 4-Film Set - black plastic elements are now semi-transparent, and an inside artwork is included. Is this the final look of the Jumbo Steelbook, or are any new adjustments being made (like spine artwork printed on both sides, etc.)? Can we expect any more Jumbo Steelbook releases shortly?

2) There hasn't been any uber-unique Blu-ray Steelbooks released lately (like the first print of German 10,000 BC with cracked-lacquer or with embossing/debossing. Most of the current Steelbook releases are either matte or glossy, but that's all. I know that whether or not to use such techniques is not dependant entirely on Scanavo, but I was wondering are any upcoming titles that would astonish the collectors in such way? I don't expect giving any particular movie titles, just pure yes/no answer.

3) Are there any countries that hasn't been releasing Blu-ray Steelbook editions exclusively yet, but are definitely about to start doing that next year?

4) With all the recent re-releases in Germany, are there plans of manufacturing another print of the other sold out German titles - Iron Man, Wanted, Underworld Trilogy, 1408, The Mist?

5) What has really happened with the John Rambo Amazon.de edition after being cancelled from retail? Were the cases returned to Scanavo, or was anything else done with them?

Thanks in advance for the answers, and for the opportunity to ask them

Any FS Exclusive Iron Man SteelBooks still kicking around? I missed out on that one.

I all seriousness, thanx for taking the time to answer some of the members questions; I know your input (in any capacity) will be appreciated.

Real Question:
The SteelBook website doesn't highlight (IMO) the "awesomeness" that is SteelBook. Are there any plans to update the site?

The Iron Man FS Steelbooks are long OOP, majority of FS stores were sold out the 1st day (2nd max). Once it's sold out...thats it, unless some stores have to dig through their backroom to find one (highly doubtful though).

I was wondering if Scanavo would be interested in hosting a contest (it could be monthly, or every two months or something), where they work with blu-ray.com to give away a steelbook.

I'm assuming that any steelbook given away would not contain discs, but rather might be a "proof", or something that is currently not attainable from an online retailer.

Additionally, I'm assuming that these steelbooks that Scanavo creates to show retailers, studios, etc would be destroyed or somehow discarded and there are no contracts / agreements that prohibit this.

What makes this most interesting to me, in fact, is the potential of collectors here that could have something very unique to their collection....

Jumbo SteelBook(tm) media cases are the latest options available. They are available from 0-8 disc in the same size as per German F/F. The choice of plastic part is down to the relevant client we work with at the time. The standard options we offer are Black or Transparent, although we can provide custom made colors if need be

2) There hasn't been any uber-unique Blu-ray Steelbooks released lately (like the first print of German 10,000 BC with cracked-lacquer or with embossing/debossing. Options available are Matte / Satin / Glossy / Spot/Crack/Zero. The varnish choice is down to each individual client we work for

3) Are there any countries that hasn't been releasing Blu-ray Steelbook editions exclusively yet, but are definitely about to start doing that next year?

Not sure

4) With all the recent re-releases in Germany, are there plans of manufacturing another print of the other sold out German titles - Iron Man, Wanted, Underworld Trilogy, 1408, The Mist?

Not sure, but that would be looked after by the sales team in Europe

5) What has really happened with the John Rambo Amazon.de edition after being cancelled from retail? Were the cases returned to Scanavo, or was anything else done with them?

First i heard of it

Thanks in advance for the answers, and for the opportunity to ask them

Thanks for your questions. Need to think about any contest. we would not be able to offer sample givaways though. But i have some fun ideas to mull over.

samples usually go to our clients, and to date we havent had a need to destroy. But i get the question.

What makes this most interesting to me, in fact, is the potential of collectors here that could have something very unique to their collection....
Yes they could, we have some here that i think are highly collectable.
Thanks for the questions and will revert re contests

How do you choose if a Blu-ray title should have a steelbook version? Is it the stores that contacs you and asks for a particular title to be a steelbook, or is it the movie companies that decides it?

And a very important question: Will you be able to buy Steelbooks directly from the production factory if you live in Denmark?

Hi, We do not choose if a BD title is packaged in a SteelBook(tm) media case. This is down to the relevant movie, music, game or corporate company, and or with input from their clients. Of course we like to market our products and provide suggestions

And no, you cannot buy the cases directly from the factory if you live in DK.
All sales / marketing goes via the particular office. Copenhagen for example in your case.

Cheers

Welcome Rob.

Thank you for appearing at this forum.

I have a small question.

Is there any way buyers of these products (i.e. Steelbooks) chose the cover art work on the discs and Steelbook?
I understand that its up to the corporation that owns the movie etc.
But do you make any suggestions on your end as to what would look good on the steelbook?

My second question is what is the maximum number of discs that a standard Steelbook can hold (I see on your company's website that 3 discs is the maximum. But can't there be 4 discs (2 discs on each side) ?)

I ask since the 4 disc jumbo steelbook (Up and Monsters Inc in N.America) had many customers reporting that the disc tray that held the discs was found broken in many instances.

Again thank you for being here and answering the questions.
Welcome and do stick around.

Hey Rob! Welcome!

Quick question. I saw online a Scanavo made SteelBook stand. Are these available for purchase anywhere? Seems like a nice way to display our steels!

Thanks!

When you mean buyers i assume you mean consumers... Dont think so is the answer. I guess it would have to be some sort of mass request. Usually its the content owner who comes up with art, based on a variety of needs / input.
My second question is what is the maximum number of discs that a standard steelbook can hold (i see on your company's website that 3 discs is the maximum. But can't there be 4 discs (2 discs on each side) ?)

good question... The maximum number that a steelbook(tm) can hold is 6 discs for dvd. For bd it is 3. We then have the steelbook(tm) jumbo which can accomodate up to 8 discs, and the bd version can hold up to 6.

I ask since the 4 disc jumbo steelbook (up and monsters inc in n.america) had many customers reporting that the disc tray that held the discs was found broken in many instances.

We were made aware of some instances that you mention and have taken action.

Again thank you for being here and answering the questions.
