Question Watchmen blind buy - yes or no ??

I never had a chance to see this at the cinema and have never read the graphic novel and I am now in two minds about buying the Blu-ray.

The general opinion seems to be that people that have previously read the books previous love this film and any newcomers aren't as taken with it.

So as a newcomer would i get it all or will all the time and effort spent on getting a 'perfect' adaption of the book be wasted on me??

I personally really liked the movie and I had never read the comics. I don't get all the bashing this movie gets. Honestly I think it was the 2nd best movie I've seen this year next to Hangover. I liked it better than Star Trek even.

Normally I either hate or love a film. But with watchmen im kind of in the middle. I may have to watch it again to decide.

In general i normally like comic films! I loved all the spiderman films, all the xmen ones(although i think the last one is just ok! But I would get it cheap off ebay ), the hulk films I was disapointed with, loved iron man and Elektra.

I would like to rent the extended watchmen version but thats not likely to be out in the uk?

If you can put to one side Malin Akerman's acting, I think you'll really enjoy this. I had read the graphic novel and fallen in love with that, so the first time I saw the film I was picking it apart from where it differed and where it stayed consistent. Having seen it a second time I got a chance to really just sit down and enjoy it for what it was, and it was pretty special. It's worth it for Dr Manhattan's 8 minutes and the opening credits alone.

Do what I do... download it first and start watching it. If you like it, buy it.

No need for blind buys.

After the fiasco of other Alan Moore adaptations (FROM HELL, V FOR VENDETTA, to name a few) I'll pass on Zack Snyder's music video homage.

I agree. This way you don't waste money. And for the record, I liked it, so if you are trying to decide whether to purchase it or not, my answer would undoubtedly be yes.

Hell no! Rent it,(or download it), beforehand. There's gonna be a lot of 2nd hand copies of this floating around soon after release date... It has that smell about it.

I say no. Its a "who done it" movie dressed up as a super hero movie. With a lot more investigating than anything else. You'll wait for the highlights, but they are rare.

I was bored with the movie. I happen to like a very wide variety of movies. This one just didn't do it for me. But I was never into the graphic novel so maybe that had something to do with it.

I don't think you will find lots of second hand copies of the Watchmen Blu-Ray. If it was a Blu-Ray with only the theatrical release, like it is in Europe, yes, you'll find it in most shops used a couple of weeks after release.
But since it's the director's cut, and full of great extras, people will keep it. It's like two totally different movies.

I loved it at the cinema and have 2 copies on order from the US. Its not your typical Super Hero movie, but I think thats what makes this fresh. Its not perfect but niether are the Heros.

Never read the graphic novels, and went to see this at the cinema, I was really looking forward to it as I normally love super hero movies.

BUT... I thought it was a mediocre movie. Some of the characters are just awful - owlman and the woman in particular. The blue guy was ridiculously overpowered, and the ending left me cold. Yes I get the message, but it didn't translate to a good movie. The only character I liked was Rorschach. I'd definitely watch this before you shell out for the blu.

It was a half decent movie that i may well have bought... had it not been for one horrific moment

The 'sex scene'

It was so unbelievably bad it made my stomach turn.... it appeared to have been filmed by a 12 year old, who's only experience of sex was.. Emotionless American Internet Porn... it totally destroyed the tone of the movie for me
