So today I told my co workers that they can get transformers revenge of the fallen on blu ray for $19.99 next week.Of course there was a person who had to open there mouth and say
"you can download blue ray versions and then burn it to a blue ray disc if your computer supports it, Ive done it a couple of times for friends and its about the same quality as buying it. Is he right give me some ammo to use against him my blu ray friends. |

For one thing, I seriously doubt the same encode used for the official release is available for download.
But even if it was, what sense does it make to spend hours waiting for the download and buy a recordable 25 gig Blu-ray disc for about $15 when you can just go buy the official release for $20 that comes with 2 discs WITH special features? |

where and how much is he getting his "blank Blu-ray's" to burn the movie onto? They are like $10-$15 each.
And like someone else mentioned it would take forever to download the file. Get him to make you a copy of one and see what you end up with |

![]() OR he could buy a 50 gig recordable disc for about $25, which would make absolutely no sense. But then again, I don't think this co-worker makes any sense to begin with. I think the co-worker is full of crap. ![]() |

Some people think that because they get something free from whatever site or torrent they use, that they have the upper hand. "Haha, I didn't pay a dime for this, while you paid XX dollars!"
These people are rip-off artists who are only concerned about getting whatever they can for free. You can never win an argument with these types of people. Just agree, nod, smile if you have to and walk away. John |

And if he puts it on a Blu-ray disc he will be like this is how it looks and sounds like in HD(when in fact it's just an upscale of a dvd version).

Remind's me of someone I used to know. Refuse to buy any DVD, said Hollywood was rich he did not have to buy any movie. He would download everything and make his own DVD.
I was a HUGE buyer of DVD's. He started asking me to lend him my DVD so he could copy them. I asked him, you want me to give you my legal copy of a movie, I paied $20-$25 in a store so that you can then copy it and put it on a $.10 DVD, do I look stupid? Some people just think they look cool by doing stuff like that, instead I find they just look stupid. |

I work with a guy who has downloaded literally hundreds of movies and stores them on portable harddrives. Aside from the legal aspect it's understandable for him because we travel a lot for work and he wants to watch movies at night in the hotels. But he, like the original poster said, brags about how many movies he has and how the quality is SO AWESOME and because they are digital copies he can bring an entire collection on the road. He doesnt get why I refuse to do this. To me... a) I like having a hard copy of the disc in my hand. I like knowing I own this, it's an original master copy, and it's mine. b) I'm not wasting money on harddrives, wasting time on downloads, and fooling myself into thinking a compressed digital copy is the same hi-def copy I KNOW I HAVE in my original disc. c) I cant tell you how many times I've heard him ***** and moan about the new virus he just got and how he has to wipe out his harddrive and start all over. I'm not going to get a virus on my laptop or my home theater from my real disc. d) downloads dont come with the bonus features and audio tracks. This is all the same reason I dont download music either, I'd rather have a real disc in my hand than some crappy compressed mp3... even if it's not cool to say so.

obviously your idiot co-worker isn't actually doing what he claims, i've yet to see a 1:1 blu-ray rip to download anywhere.
regardless, you can always pretend to take his word for it and counter with "why would you spend $16 to burn a blank blu-ray disc when you could just get the retail copy for $20 which includes the case and all the extras?" |
