The original Sleuth is one of my all time favourite films. I HATED the remake. Obviously I'd love to see a blu ray release of Sleuth, but who even owns the rights?
It was originally released in the U.S. by Fox and it was released on DVD a couple of times by Anchor Bay. When the remake came out in 2007, Paramount released it in on DVD in the UK, so obviously the rights are split between studios in different markets. I know that Anchor Bay still releases some Fox titles on blu (Silver Streak and Airheads being some recent examples) but there is obviously some reason why the Anchor Bay DVD releases of Sleuth went out of print a while back. They didn't even re-release it to cash in on the remake as I thought they would. Ideally, Criterion would be a perfect fit because it's a fairly prestigious picture. Can anyone shed any light on the situation (who owns the rights?) and any speculation on how likely a blu release of Sleuth is anytime soon? |
