Default computer players

Hey guys, just had a quick question. I am trying to find a read-only internal blu ray player for my newly built desktop. Everywhere I look online, i see rewritables or blu ray burners, etc, or stand alone players...but nothing like just read only...like a blu ray player for the computer. kinda like the old school dvd-roms that just played movies. if anyone knows of a make/model and can link me, that would be very much appreciated. heck i don't even know if these exist. thank you very much!

You should look under Blu-ray PCs and Drives.

Here's a thread for you.

MODS: this post should be moved to the appropriate forum.

Why would't you want to write to BD-Rs or BD-REs?

It makes "backups" a lot easier.

Don't look for read-onlys soon. By the time they make a drive with the blue laser (itself in short supply), it is just pennies to include the firmware and software to handle rewritables.

Is the only difference between a rom and a rw drive the firmware? That's weird.

Once you have the burning laser the difference between R and RW is trivial yes

There are BD-ROMs already shipping in the $300 range

wait...so don's saying that it's just pennis to include the RW firmware and whatnot...so should i hold off on buying the bd-rom and wait for bd-rw's or something? as it stands right now, i definitely don't have enough money to shell out for a burner. i just wanted to watch HD movies. besides...i have vista, and unless people know of some super duper software that vista won't mind running that'll handle the burns, then yeah...

so should i wait or what?
