so, the back cover shows it as just the R rated cut, not the Unrated cut. What could possibly be the reason for not including the unrated cut??
*edit: just saw there is a whole discussion about this in the Saw III thread! But, it can't be overstated how ridiculous a decision it is to release these without the unrated cuts. For me, that is a deal breaker in terms of purchasing them. I bought the first Saw movie Steelbook that included the unrated cut and was hoping to own the whole franchise in steelbook form, but I guess not. |

The first film was finished photochemically and conformed to the unrated cut. The sequels used DI's, and in some cases, film elements were either not kept or misplaced, making the unrated versions impossible to scan natively as the negatives were conformed to the R-rated cuts. They could theoretically be upscaled, but it would also involve re-editing and color timing the pieces back into the native scan, which would be costly.
