so, the back cover shows it as just the R rated cut, not the Unrated cut. What could possibly be the reason for not including the unrated cut??

But, it can't be overstated how ridiculous a decision it is to release these without the unrated cuts. For me, that is a deal breaker in terms of purchasing them.

I bought the first Saw movie Steelbook that included the unrated cut and was hoping to own the whole franchise in steelbook form, but I guess not.

Yup, I won’t be buying these either. Makes no sense to release the first steel unrated but not the sequels.

The first film was finished photochemically and conformed to the unrated cut. The sequels used DI's, and in some cases, film elements were either not kept or misplaced, making the unrated versions impossible to scan natively as the negatives were conformed to the R-rated cuts. They could theoretically be upscaled, but it would also involve re-editing and color timing the pieces back into the native scan, which would be costly.

Just put the unrated shots back in HD then.

Tempting. I am not familiar enough with 2 through 4 to recall the differences between the R and unrated versions.

Yeah, gonna have to skip if there's no unrated cut. This is one movie where it actually makes a big difference. Same for the sequels. Bummer.
