I need to shop for my surrounds since I just sold my C-R1's to the same dude who purchased my Energy system.
I was originally planing on getting the Monitor Audio RSFX to match the Silver series but the price on the RSFX are insane. The cheapest I was able to find them at (new in box) was $875 after some hard negociating. So my other option was going with the BRFX at 1/2 the price. So I placed my order over the phone today for my BRFX's but I might cancel them tomorrow... The BR's go for $550 and I got them for $485 They seem decent, and at that price I can get another pair in a few months and get 7.1 system done. But then I thought of the Axiom QS4's or QS8's. The price on these shipped are between $480 - $585 (or $410 to $524 if I go factory outlet and wait 4 weeks) and honestly, they look damn sick! The specs seem better than the BRFX's (for almost the same price)... maybe you pro's can confirm this? So heres the million dollar question.... I know we can "cheat" a little with the back channels and don't fully need to match the series (RS series fronts and BR series back), but what about another brand all together in the back ? Would that cause an issue ? Would I hear the difference ? Also, the fact that my front stage is set at 6ohms is it ok if I grab the QS4's since these are 8ohms ? can that cause an issue or should I stick with the same Ohms all around ? in that case i'd need to grab the QS8's. Need some input dudes... Last edited by 4x12; 10-27-2009 at 06:31 AM. |

The surround speakers do not have to be from the same manufacturer. Even if you buy surround speakers from the same manufacturer, your sound will not necessary be the same as room acoustics play an improtant role in creating different highs and lows in every inch of the room.
For the best surround effect and the most flexible placement options, buy bipolar surround speakers. Axiom makes great bipolar surrounds, but they may be expensive. Here is a list of most bipolar surround manufacturers. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=93873 |

Thanks BD, And what about the Ohms issue? do I need to match all around or is it safe to have the front end at 6Ohms and the surrounds at 4Ohms? |

A great bipolar surround choice is from PSB, another outstanding Canadian speaker manufacturer. The PSB Image series S50 is on sale for $500 a pair. I own a pair and recommend them. https://dmc-electronics.com/Default.htm http://cgi.ebay.com/PSB-IMAGE-S50-SU...item56363c01f9 This is the PSB speakers owners thread. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=92449 Last edited by Big Daddy; 10-27-2009 at 07:03 AM. |

Yeah I found that saturdayaudio site last week when I looking into the RS6's. Again, the only problem for me it was shipping the RS6's. I didnt feel ok with that, plus the whole thing with the 5 year warranty. But I might browse the site again for the surrounds. But I really do like the look of the Axiom surrounds. And these are quads baby!!! ![]() |

You know, I might actually go with the Axiom QS8's factory outlets... getting them at a cheaper price, free shipping but theres a 4 week wait... I think I can handle that waiting periode. |

I'd take the 500 you're going to blow on Axiom and wait for the RSFX. It's worth it and you don't have to worry about the day you have 300 bucks in hand and think, jeez if I wouldn't have bought these Axioms I could afford the RSFX.....
And trust me... that day will come. |

I've just ordered 2 M60's and the VP150 for my front's from Axiom's and since I have the room, I was thinking of buying 4xM50's as surrounds to complete my 7.1 I am presently using 4xF1 from Klipsch and found that it really improved the total sound compared to my previous 4 small Sony surrounds. Am I just spending extra cash for nothing ? |

I'd rather build an awesome 5.1 than a half ass 7.1, but to each their own I guess.

As far as the surrounds themselves, my QS8's were the last components to add to my system, and boy did they make a difference. They are awesome as far as surround-sound ambiance goes. They totally completed the HT experience for me. Not to mention the excellent customer service from AXIOM Audio. They are always there to help, and stand behind their product 100%. |

I would rather save up and have everything match than some Frankenstein mish-mash of speakers. And just to be clear you are going to hear a difference especially if you play games with lots of directional and panning surround effects. Last edited by CasualKiller; 10-28-2009 at 03:25 PM. |
