Default Do Collectibles have to match movie posters?

I guess I was just wondering about other members views on this issue and how they would rate a home theater if they saw photos where the movie posters displayed on the walls were extremely different from other collectibles in the room?

Example (My Home theater):

I have 7 original movie posters on my walls; all professionally archived & framed (Spartacus, Brigadoon, The Sand Pebbles, Gettysburg, Titanic, Doctor Zhivago and a British Quad - Dances with Wolves). However, my figure collectibles and models are ALL SciFi related (Alien 1:1 head, Species 'Sil' Marquette, Jaws Marquette, Alien 'Kane' 1/6 figure w/lights, Terminator 2 T-800 Half Scale Endoskull Bust w/lights, Terminator 1:2 Endo Arm, Polystone Alien Warrior and Newborn and an Icon's Limited Edition Pulse Rifle). I do own an original "Spartacus" model which is very rare and which I do not want to build (but it is in a very nice, almost mint condition box) and I do own a Titanic model (which is yet unbuilt). And it's not like I don't own ORIGINAL movie posters and Lobby Card Sets which would match the themes of my SciFi collectibles and models because I do (but at this time, they are all stored away and are unframed). Some of these unframed posters (including 4 signed & numbered lithographs)from Alien, Species and Raiders of the Lost Ark) are really rare because I've been collecting and investing in movie memorabilia since 1970!

Still, having said this, I'm wondering if the rating of my Home Theater Setup would be affected by having varied themes? Should I wait to post photos until such time as I have those other posters framed to replace the ones currently on my walls or does it not make any difference at all?

To be perfectly honest, I'm not really that concerned with what RATING I receive from fellow members but I AM CURIOUS ABOUT HOW ALL OF YOU WOULD VIEW A HOME THEATER WITH CONFLICTING MOTION PICTURE THEMES!

Thanks for reading this and thanks in advance for your input!

Rich

If it makes you happy, it's perfect.

I think the problem with rigid themes is that they are only impressive if the person likes the theme. By mixing posters with figures of a different theme you get the advantage of having a better chance of someone seeing something that strikes a chord. This assumes you are talking about the reactions of your guests, etc.

I like people who have a wide variety in their collectibles more than I do the people where the only thing you see is like Star Wars stuff or just Lord of the Rings stuff etc...

Decorate the way you want it, not the way you think others want it to look. Sounds like you have an excellent collection and I personally think it's cool that the posters and collectibles vary. Personally, all of my posters and statues/busts/collectibles are all from comic book/sci-fi/fantasy, but that's just me. Plus, let's face it, you're not really going to find any collectibles for the movies on your posters anyway. And it's certainly cheaper to replace the posters should you feel the need to. Unless of course you want to sell your collectibles collection to me dirt cheap.

Also, post some pictures. Sounds like a really great room.

I set up things the way I like them. I am not running a business afterall, it's my personal place where I love to sit, relax and enjoy the movies I like.

If it work's for you OP then it's perfect the way it is. Plus like the others said, where are the pics?

I'm soooooooo jealous...Alien 1:1 head. Is it the Giger model?
Damn dood..where's the pics??
I'm not allowed to put my "stuff" in the ht because it doubles as our living room. "But honey...Darth Vader would look great standing in the corner."

Oh yeah, who cares what anyone thinks as long as you like it. Sounds like a very diverse and well rounded collection you have there. Where's the pics?

It really depends on if it bothers you. I would say just keep maybe the same color palette or theme. But it's really how you like it.

I'm just going to say what other's have been saying about this. What really truly matter's is what you like. No one person can truly make everyone happy. You have to be happy with what you have. If you can achieve this then your set. I pesonally only really collect Matrix stuff, (and have quite the collection I might have, one of these days I'll post pic's of everythign I have) But if your going to worry about what other's think, you'll never be happy cuz your worring about othe'r opinion's. I personlly think it is awesome to have a wide range of theme's it shows you don't limit your self, and your not afraid to think out side of the box. It's your place you make it and decide what's best for your taiste. Besides you'll be the one to live in it not joe shmoe.

ALL HAIL & PAY HOMAGE TO THE XENOMORPH (aka ALIEN) CREATURE & TO H.R. GIGER FOR HIS INITIAL CREATION OF NECRONOM IV IN 1976!! LOVE your avatar BTW!! [Can you tell from mine that I am partial to ALL THINGS GIGER?] AGAIN!!

Anyway, in answer to your question, I'm not clear if you are referring to the signed & numbered Giger version (which is actually 1:4 & not 1:1) head or the one released by the Hollywood Collectibles Group (the one I have on order but it won't ship until the end of December '09 or a little later I've been told because there were only 500 issued). Sooooo, unfortunately I don't have that piece to photograph yet! Still, here are a couple of pics to wet your appetite and make you even more "jealous!"

And THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO SHARED YOUR HELPFUL THOUGHTS AND SUGGESTIONS!! I've been collecting motion picture memorabilia since 1970 when I came back from Vietnam and my collecting habits have gone through phases (bouncing in and out from CLASSIC non-SciFi Hollywood films to only SciFi and back again! If I were wealthy or at least more financially secure, I would get some of my ORIGINAL motion picture posters restored (would LOVE to have my original "Bataan" -1943 hanging on the wall but unfortunately it is separated in numerous places where the poster was folded because those early movie posters - prior to the mid-1980's- were folded and placed in film cans for shipment to theaters).

Still, I will have to photograph not only my rare movie poster collection (I have several hundred posters alone) as well as my home theater setup (and several hundred other movie related collectibles - mostly SciFi) when I get a decent camera (because my current digital camera really sucks BIG TIME and simply isn't capable of taking indoor pics worthy of being posted here)! When I'm gone I can only imagine how much fun family members will have auctioning off my collection (and boy will they be surprised because most of them thought PAPER products like mine were not an investment)!
