Default Lady For A Day (Frank Capra) 3-20-12 Review

Lady For a Day Blu-ray

Lady For a Day Blu-ray Review

Looks like Inception Media Grup is putting this title out. Never heard of them before. Anyone know their track record? I want to know whether or not to get rid of my dvd which has been OOP for a while.

AFAIK, their only release has been a SD-DVD of Miss Nobody.

Here's what a DVDTalk reviewer had to say about the PQ/AQ:

Quote:
Video:
The widescreen image transfer is very good, with sharp resolution and strong colors. I didn't notice any real problem with the picture, no ghosting or jagged edges. For a small production, the presentation is impressively competitive with much bigger studio releases.

Sound:
A very good 5.1 digital mix livens up the proceedings, giving a nice punch to the soundtrack and filling up all the speakers. While most of the weight is, admittedly, distributed equally, there are occasional back speaker effects that separate the elements and keep the audio lively.
Inception can apparently produce a quality product. Looks like most of their content is television and probably not great candidates for HD. I'd say that a lot will depend on the elements. If they have access to the same elements Image did for the SD-DVD, it should be an instant upgrade. I'll wait to read a review, but am somewhat optimistic.

They've released some 90s IMAX films on Blu, and a handful of DTV small budget titles. http://www.dvdaf.com/search.html?pub...p%2F%2F*rgn_us

According to blu-ray.com, Inception Media Group have released 11 blu-rays so far. As captveg said, most are IMAX films, they've gotten good reviews here. I also saw a movie review giving good marks to image quality, but it was a new movie.

I agree with TJS Blu, if they use the print Image used for their dvd (I own it), it should look great.

By the way, don't know if anybody noticed, but terrible public-comain torturers Film Chest are releasing "The red house" and "The strange love of Martha Ivers" on April and May. I would not recommend anyone to buy the latter from them, Paramount (original studio of the movie) owns beautiful elements that they released on dvd (not the public-domain editions). And "Red house" well, it always has looked awful (on home video) so I guess it's all the same.

I have this pre-ordered. I also own the 2001 Image dvd. I'll try to compare. It's not that I distrust the reviewer (although in my opinion the 2001 dvd looked excellent all things considered) but at first I thought all that "new restoration" stuff was just blurb. But apparently a new scene has been recovered for the movie, and that's impressing, so maybe it's true after all.

I finally got around to watching this. It does run 4 and 1/2 minutes longer than the dvd (I don't know what the new scenes are becuase I didn't bother watching all the dvd). And it looks a lot better.

I just noticed that Inception Media will be releasing On Approval on 2/12. I was quite pleased with the transfer on Lady for a Day, so I'll definitely be picking this up. From their website:

Quote:
Released for the first time on Blu Ray, featuring a new High Definition transfer from the original 35mm master. Features a bonus interview with Googie Withers and commentary by Jeffrey Vance.

I suddenly was concerned that when I opened the BD case and saw on the disc itself printed "DVD".

But looking at the actual disc, it is a Blu-ray, luckily. Does everyone else have this same problem?

Anyone on the fence about this might want to pick it up soon, it seems to being drying up everywhere and may be OOP.

You probably would’ve had a better chance if you got on ordering earlier. Like 5 years ago, when that user posted the warning.

Yep I wasn’t aware of Capra or this release 5 years ago, thanks for the snark.

Yes I should have ordered it last year when I was looking up Capra releases and saw it for a good price.

I paid a pretty penny for this out of print Pre-Code classic. Hopefully another label can pick this up. It needs to be seen more by the masses.
