Default Fluance AVHTB Any good? Help me out

I'm really clueless when it comes to knowing what makes speakers good. Are these any good? Worth the price? If not, where can I get good speakers for a good price?

Thanks

I know cnet rates them "very good" but I know a lot of people hear don't respect cnets reviews. How much are you looking to spend? Are you looking for towers? What receiver do you have?

Well to be perfectly honestly I have no idea what a receiver is or what it does so I really can't help myself there. But I'm in the range of anywhere up to $300.

If you don't know what a receiver is you have some reading to do before you even think about buying speakers. search around on this site or others to find out the basics on how a home theatre system works. Once you do a little studying you'll be far better prepared to find what's right for you.

Why don't you provide a link then, so he can look at your reviews!

A few years ago I believe it was 2004, I purchased my 1st 7.1 receiver the Pioneer VSX-1015s I was running a 5.1 set of Mission 700's w Mission sub, didn't have much money but needed mains to complete the 7.1. Stumbled across a Fluance site with a CDN retailer I believe it was Oakville Sound (the one that is no longer in business) and they offered them as mail order. Called them up and ordered a pair of floorstanders for about $200 - had them within a week - now I have to say that they were not bad at all for entry level mains and well worth the money I paid for them.

With that being said - if I knew then what I know now I would save my money and go to Audiogon or Canuck Audio (if in Canada)

Nice price, but I'd spend my money elsewhere.

Sorry for the late reply (just read this)...

I can vouch for Fluance speakers. I had the SXHTB and they were actually pretty good (compared to other cheap speakers). I have no problem recommending them. However, avoid the subs (unless you like boomy - Honda Civic from 3 blocks away - sound).
