Has anyone subscribed to AT&T's U-Verse yet? I just learned that it is available in the San Diego area. I'm stoked! I checked online and it says it isn't available, but alot of people are saying the website it not reliable, so i'm gonna call on monday and see if I can get it.

I have U-Verse in Houston TX. I have a 65" Mitsu DLP and the picture is great on the 10 or so HD channels I get. HDnet is one of the best channels of the bunch. I recommend the service but I have some problems; as is to be expected with such a new type of service. I have the DSL and the HDTV package. Both services are linked through the 2wire modem. There are four line of service coming in to the house. If I watch a TV in the living room while downloading something on the PC, my menu on the TV is slow (not as slow as cable but...) I can only watch one HD channel at a time in the house. If I turn on HD in the living room I must interrupt the HD in the bedroom for example. This also affects my view when I am recording HD, I can not watch an HD channel at the same time. It is true that one can record 4 channels at a time, as long as they are not HD channels. The set recording menu is very slow. The alphabetical menu searches each letter imputed, instead of waiting until you put in the entire title. It gets very annoying. And then it may not find the show because there is an "A" or a “THE" in the beginning of the title. I also had the entire hard drive erase itself for no reason. I had a bunch of HD movies saved that are not on Blueray yet. A bit off topic; why can TNT show Gladiator in HD but it's still not on Bluray?
The DSL when paired with a good PC is very fast. But the wireless of the 2wire modem is lacking, especially when it comes to my PS3. I am always losing signal. The techs at ATT blamed the weak signal on a neighbor’s cordless phone. This may seem a bit negative, that was not my intention. Over all ATT U-verse will be a great entertainment platform once the kinks are worked out. |

cool! Thanks for the reply. Here in San Diego we get 25 HD channels. I think that includes all the premium movie channels, but I was thoroughly impressed with the channel lineup.
I totally expect problems with the service, and I knew about only being able to watch one HD channel at a time. I only have one HDTV, so no biggie for me. I've been waiting for IPTV for almost two years, glad to see it's finally gaining some ground! |

I have it and it sucks. There are too many issues that I've been running into on a monthly basis. I've had the service for almost a year and have yet to pay a bill because of how many issues I've had. I would not recomend this service to anyone unless you would like to talk to Tech Support for atleast an hour every month or having reps in and out of your house to fix their crappy boxes and routers. They have yet to live up to the empty promises they gave me 10 months ago. To top it off, you can only get 5.1 on HD channels. Sorry, but I wouldn't call that an up to date service. Oh, if your cable goes out, which mine tends to do almost every other week, so does your internet.

Muad listed most of the drawbacks.
For the most part the service is just really getting off the ground. Almost all the techs who are working on it are having to learn as they go along because IPTV is really a new thing in America(yes I know some small outfits have it). The way it works is a VDSL line is installed to a 2Wire gateway then from there either ethernet or coaxial(using HPNA) is set to each set top box. Ethernet is really best but if coax is used the tech will probably have to make sure the connectors were all set right. Really most of it comes down to how stable the DSL link is. If the link is solid then 90% of the time you'll have little trouble. |

I had it for 3 months. The picture would constantly pixilate and we would lose sound about every other day (Until we called tech support). I called them more in the 3 months than my cable company in 15 years. They have the best channel line-up I have ever seen and the costs is lower than cable. If they can ever get their act together they would have a really good system.
