Default hdmi on hd3870

So I have a radeon hd3870 which is suppose to have sound over dvi if you use the dvi-hdmi adapter. Unfortunatly windows 7 says its unplugged and gave me an error saying the dongle isn't the right kind.. Even though its the one that came with the card.

Anyone have some experience with this? Google has info but no solutions/conclusions.

Are your 100% positive it's the one that came with that card? I had that issue a while back with vista, I had grabbed the wrong dongle out of my video accessory box.

100% But i am tempted to buy another one off newegg made my sapphire(its a sapphire card)

I know it is because i never bought one before, so its the only one i had which came with it.

now that im looking at my gfx card pictures http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102719

I see the adapter is grey, and so is the one i was going to buy. While the one I am using is black..

I don't know how, but I have both. The black one gives me errors because it does not carry audio (missing 2 pins), and the gray one just works.

So it's probably worth the 5$ or whatever they are worth.

I digged and digged and finally found the original dongle. I was using something from my old his 2600xt. Anyways now i got a new problem, I can't get 5.1 only stereo. I got the realtek drivers and all, just no option on the speaker config for 5.1
