I highly recommend it!
It's one of my favorite movies of this year (so far).
It SHOULD also be a real treat to witness both the video and audio in HD.

It was a really fun movie. It would be a safe blind buy.

Do you have to know anything about Star Trek though? I don't know a single thing about it. Would I be lost with no Star Trek knowledge?

I think it works both ways. If you are fan, it definitely gives some hints and kick backs to the originals. If you are not a fan (like many people I know) it still has enough of an origins type plot that you wouldn't be lost.

It really is a great mix of action, humor, and sci-fi.

IMO It was the type of movie (similar to Iron Man) that majority of people liked.

No. I know little about the Star Trek Universe and it was a good movie. It is easy to follow and to understand. It "starts and introduces" the characters that have become popular, like Spock, etc. It is aimed so that anyone can watch it and grasp the story and what is going on. Of course, if you are a fan, somethings will make more sense and you'll understand more at the same time.

Well I'm no Trekkie and I loved the movie, as long as Paramount brings the goods as far as PQ and AQ are concerned (and I'm guessing they will) I'd say it's absolutely worthy of a blind buy.

+1..I'm a Star Wars guy....a friend of mine dragged me to the theatre...and I really enjoyed it! Its mix of awesome special effects and humor just totally made the movie enjoyable! J.J. Abrams really did a great job with it. He made it a movie that everyone could enjoy. Even if you are not a fan of the franchise and have no idea why Spock has pointy ears lol.

Yes. And if you never saw a Star Trek movie (or the series), don't worry, the movie is for everyone.

It's one of the best movies of 2009 for sure (in my opinion, way better than The Dark Knight).

I'm not a Star Trek fan but I enjoyed it. I didn't think it was as great as some people made it out to be but it was a solid 7/10 I think. I thought it was too goofy

The Star Trek franchise has been around for 40 years or so, so most of us know something about Kirk and Spock and others. I think knowing something about the series adds immensely to the enjoyment of the movie. Does this movie stand alone to new comers -- it's so hard to tell coming from someone like me who knows so much about ST. I think that's the hope of Paramount. I'm sure they hope to reinvigorate the franchise for newcomers. It is very well done and has lots of action, good character development, and it will most likely develop into a new (and I hope, successful) ST movie series. If you are an action sci-fi person, I'd say go for it -- and although I always wait for the PQ/AQ reviews to come out first -- I think Paramount will make this BD reference quality. They have so much at stake here they'd be fools not to.

Good for a blind buy. You won't be lost, it's a reboot
