Default Why does Up have DTS MA 5.1 and 2.0?

If you have DTS MA 5.1 and DTS MA 2.0 wouldn't you get the same mix just by listening to the DTS MA 5.1 track on the stereo setting on your receiver?

maybe it's mixed differently, so that people with only a 2.0 or 2.1 setup can hear dialog better. I remember when I had a 2.0 setup that dialog was very quiet when watching movies before.

Probably for people who don't have Home Theaters or people who watch them on a PC. My only explanation ??

It's a Mono to Stereo thing.

I agree with Barbie-Shrimp. It's for people who only have two speakers. More importantly, I believe that the 2.0 mix will provide better sound if only using the actual LCD TV for the audio source (no surround speakers, woofer or AV amp).

The 2.0 mis is specifically mixed for 2.0 output.

The 5.1 mix is intended for 5.1 systems but can be downmixed depending on the equipment.

However, when downmixing 5.1 to 2.0, the equipment and not a sound mixer is doing the rearrangement according to pre-programed algorithims.

A) The .1 channel is dropped so all LFE is removed from the mix. So while "bass" may still be present the LFE is not.

B) The two discrete rear channels now have to be combined into one channel and then mixed or placed within the front stereo audio. This may result in this audio information being presented in mono when downmixed to 2.0.

Whereas the 2.0 mix is designed from the start with the audio mixed with LFE remixed for stereo and all addtional audio already mixed properly for stereo output. That means the audio that would normally be sent to two rear discrete channels is played back properly in stereo on 2.0 setups.

yet according to the DVDBeaver review - it actually is a DTS-ES soundmix with a matrixed center rear channel for folk who have 6.1 speaker setups.
