its annoying when you search and search for movies that ya really enjoyed and come up with REGION BLOCKED! REGION A ONLY!
All the best movies I want to watch is all region A only. These production companies like and Lionsgate & FOX who put these stupid blocks on the blurays. Either release the movies everywhere at once or get rid of the region block. Movies ya just cant watch in the UK. The Boondock Saints, Belly, American Psycho. Half Baked?? uft the list just goes on. I wish someone would get a grip. Be fair. Its like a parents buying new toys for one kid while the other kid plays with "crap". |

I wish Fox would get their collective arses in gear and release Cast Away over here. From what I've read, the region A transfer is almost reference quality, not to mention a very entertaining movie
And although much frowned upon I'm also hoping for House Of 1000 Corpses. That too is supposed to be a fantastic transfer. There is a solution of course but I don't want to go down that route. |

I just bought 2 PS3's in the end. Not only are some movies not available on B. But some are better quality on A. Although to be honest, I really don't like getting movies on region A that are locked. You pretty much end up losing a whole bunch of cash on them because nobody local can play them.
So far I have Boondock Saints, I-Robot, Prestige (A), Shoot em up, Sleeping Beauty, WALL-E and maybe 2 more that are locked A. Which is not alot considering I have 150 blu rays. Are you missing out? A little, but not much. Boondock saints never got a UK release on DVD yet, let alone Blu ray. |

You know Fox, releasing your catalogue titles either in Region A with ABC coding or more or less simultaniously world wide would sure negate a lot of pirates arguments to justify their piracy. I must admit, I thought region coding on Blu-ray would be a disaster, but its not. I can accept region coding on contemporary films to protect release windows. I can accept region coding on the bulk of - say - Disney's/Buena Vista films because based on Disney's past release record, we'll know a region B version will be released sooner rather than later (Good grief, they even released Miracle on region B Blu-ray. A true story about a person most Europeans don't know about who excelled in a sport most Europeans don't care about). Meanwhile the list of Fox catalogue films missing in action continues to grow and grow and grow... |

Here are some good movies that are not yet released in UK (but are released in other countries):
American Psycho Assault on Precinct 13 Big Trouble in Little China Casablanca Descent Die Hard with a Vengeance The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Mean Girls Point Break Princess Bride Romancing the Stone usually buy my movies from UK, so I'm taking notes of films that aren't available in UK, but are available elsewhere. |

I can think of no good reason to region lock any movies. One would think that the companies that release the movies would want everybody buying their movies. The more they sell, the more they make. Stupid if you ask me

From what I understand, Criterion are obliged to region-lock their discs because they usually only have the rights to distribute in the US (it's cheaper than getting the rights internationally).
It is deeply frustrating when consumers aren't given an option though. The worst is when there's no alternative at all (like most of those Criterion releases), but even delays are frustrating. "UP" is already out in the US, but it's still playing in cinemas here and no UK blu-ray release has even been announced yet. The latest Miyazaki film "Ponyo" doesn't even come to UK cinemas until Feb 2010 (and one of my Dutch friends has already seen it!), which is when the blu-ray is scheduled for release in Japan. |

![]() And about ''cheap solutions'': You can buy the LG BD370, which can be changed of region code for 5 times, so it's perfect for you as extra BD player, because you can use your PS3 for region B locked BD's. Good idea? Everyone wants to shout many F-words to the phenomenon ''region coding'', but does it help? ![]() Last edited by Celerony; 11-25-2009 at 12:23 PM. |
