Charlize Theron to Star, William Monahan to Adapt 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance'

Charlize Theron has committed to star in Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, an adaptation of the final installment of Park Chan-wook's revenge trilogy.

William Monahan has been tapped to pen the script for the project, which also see Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures coming on board to finance

Theron's Denver & Delilah Films and CJ Entertainment have been slowly developing the English-language remake of since 2008. Theron had, up to this point, been only involved as a producer.

I know they are remaking Oldboy. How about Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Seems weird to have these out of order

The line "This will be very American" is worrying considering other very American adaptations of Asian movies. I can see this hitting development hell though so probably nothing to worry about.

eh, theyre not really a series just a thematic trilogy. there isnt really an order to them.

Well, I don't view this as completely gloom and doom. The original is a great film to be sure and my personal favourite of the vengeance trilogy, so I'm having a hard time seeing it topped. However, Monahan is a great scribe and The Departed did IMO turn out a lot better than Infernal Affairs. If they can get more talent involved then this might just turn out superior to the original. Here's hoping!

Theron has been pretty bad in strong female parts so far so I can't say I care for this.
