I recently acquired a pair of Sennheiser's new RS180 wireless headphones through a promotion at work, and all I have to say is.... Wow. I should have upgraded sooner!
Sennheiser RS180 Here is a short review for anyone whom has contemplated a pair. First, I come from having over 20 pairs of different wired headphones. I have experience using many studio standards on the market from Sony, AKG, Sennheiser, Ultrasone, Audio Technica, Direct Sound, Shure, etc. I formerly had a pair of the RS120 Wireless Headphones by Sennheiser as well. I was always fairly happy with the RS120's in general, although I had noticed some issues with 'artifacts' or short blips of inconsistency or RF drop outs. The phones had a great range (advertised at 300 ft) however for natural transmission I always thought the advertised range was a bit of an exaggeration. The RS120s are very inexpensive, and the phones themselves modeled some of the popular less expensive models of wired phones (HD280-Professional's come to mind.) Now for the 'meat'.... the RS180's. The RS180's very similarly model some of Sennheiser's higher end 'audiophile' style of wired phones, specifically the HD595 (also an open back design). The pads come with the same type of velour finish material and are extremely comfortable, just a pleasure to wear. They include a variety of excellent features that the RS120's do not, including ALC (Automatic Level Control), Balance Control (Left vs Right output control), an 8 dB pad to attenuate for hooking up devices that have either a hot output, or a fairly quiet output, and on phone volume control. The greatest part about the phones is they utilize a digital wireless transmission system referred to by Sennheiser as "KLEER Technology." They offer extremely clear transmission, so clear in fact, it truly surprised me in comparison the the RF transmitting style of the RS120s. I have noticed zero artifacting, noise, hiss or other common complaints the RS120s seem to have following them. The transmission is extremely trustworthy, and bolsters a fantastic dynamic range in comparison to the RS120s, as well. If you are thinking about the RS180s, I can assure you won't regret it! They are fantastic phones, the best wireless option I have ever personally had the pleasure of using. If you have any specific questions about them, or are curious about anything else, feel free to PM or post a response to this thread. Regards, ![]() |
