Description
"A QUICK-PACED, BRIGHT, HARD-EDGED EXPLOITATION THRILLER ..." – Janet Maslin, The New York Times

There's a psychopath on the loose in Manhattan who is stalking and mutilating beautiful strippers employed by booking agents Matt Rossi (Tom Berenger) and Nicky Parzeno (Jack Scalia). But when the madman targets Matt's ex-girlfriend, Loretta (Melanie Griffith), he must confront his own violent past to stop the sadistic killer. Welcome to Fear City, where thrills are cheap, and human life is even cheaper.

Billy Dee Williams, Rae Dawn Chong, Maria Conchita Alonso, Rossano Brazzi and Jan Murray also star in this uncompromising drama from cult director Abel Ferrara, filmed on location in the sleazy bars and back alleys

FFS, why does it have to be a store exclusive?

These site exclusives are the bane of my existence. As a Canadian you are pretty much priced out of these

It does suck. It would nice if they arranged something with Unobstructed View to have them as store exclusives there too.

I'll get this eventually, but need another title to get that free shipping. Maybe something with their August titles.

I have their original exclusive. Is this new one the same transfer as 88 Films or whatever? I didn't follow it but I seem to remember some controversy...

Won’t purchase until the theatrical cut is confirmed to be properly displayed and not a stretched mess like the 101 Films release. They released a completely botched product and have done absolutely nothing to address or fix it. Will never purchase anything from 101 Films again.

F*ck! I want this so bad but decided after the 4K sale to take a break on buying stuff. But I can’t let this slip away…guess I’ll see how quickly it’s moving before I plunge.

I'll post stock updates from time to time. So far 1,589 copies remain (or 31 copies sold). I don't think they've announced it on any social media yet, so it may start selling a little faster if/when that happens. I don't expect an overly fast sell-out though.

edit: Just got an email announcement from SF for them

Who could have predicted that if people kept buying these shitty $30 dollar releases, that shout would just increase their frequency while decreasing their quality.

I have the Australian blu ray from Cinema Cult. Wondering if this is worth the upgrade.

…I literally just got the 101 Films release last week.

Wait to see how much better the Interpositive scan is (especially the uncut version).

I like the movie, but not enough to buy it again.

Those site exclusives irk my nerves.

Doing the cart trick I just got 1,554. I’ll check again later. This and Ms. 45 are the big Ferrara titles I missed out on.

Was really hoping Shout would’ve given us a 4K…but here we are.

TBH, their decision to press very limited numbers doesn’t inspire confidence in the quality of the remaster, especially coming hot on the heals of their Affliction release, where the ‘new 2K scan’ turned out to be a rather dubious claim. And by dubious, I mean bullshit

It should hopefully be an improvement. The 101 release seems to have used the older scans...and screwed up the aspect ratio on the original theatrical cut. Since it really didn't offer the 1.85:1 OAR on either cut, I skipped it for that alone.

I went ahead and ordered this new one, along with Darkness which at least gives free shipping on the order. I figure if the new one doesn't beat the old Shout release, I can just always get rid of one of them.

This should at least finally offer the film in it's 1.85:1 ratio, and now offer subtitles unlike the older disc.

The 'new scan' on these site exclusives generally seems to be spot on most times. Affliction was a Shout Select line, and those unfortunately sometimes seem to get transfer lemons. Since the original Fear City scan dates back 12+ years, I would expect it to at least be on par with it.

The new scan of The Ninth Configuration was great, which made it an even bigger bummer that it was limited.
