Quick Amazon Pre-order Question

I know that when you pre-order from Amazon, you don't get charged for it until the item ships.

Is it the same way when you combine in-stock items with pre-orders? I.e., will I only get charged for the in-stock items now, and then the pre-order later? Or does it all get charged at once?

I've grouped pre-orders with in-stock orders and 2 things have happened.

1) they delayed the instock item to ship with the pre-order - then charged it when they both shipped

2) after about a month - they shipped the instock item, then the preorder item - charged separately.

Both were selected for Group into 1 shipment - Free Shipping.

The 2nd scenario only happened once. Most of the time, they hold the instock item till your pre-order ships.

You get charged as each individual item ships, so unless they ship together, you will only be charged for the shipped in-stock items first, and the pre-orders whenever they become available and ship.

If you have free super saver shipping selected and you order a current release and a pre-order, if your preorder doesnt come out for a few weeks or more, Amazon will usually (at least in my experience) ship out your current release separately--and still with free shipping--to ensure you get it faster.

This also includes backordered and out of stock items.

I have done large items that included pre-order, backordered, and out of stock items. I have only been charged as the item is shipped.
