Default netflix coming to ps3!

Netflix Coming Soon to PlayStation 3

FOSTER CITY and LOS GATOS, Calif., October 26, 2009 – Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) and Netflix, Inc. [Nasdaq: NFLX] today announced that they are joining forces to make thousands of movies and TV episodes from Netflix available to be streamed instantly to TVs via the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system. Netflix expects to begin streaming via the PS3 system next month at no additional cost to Netflix members in the United States who have a PS3 system.
Today’s announcement pairs two of the most popular and fastest growing home entertainment brands in the U.S. The PS3 system’s installed base has reached close to 9 million units in the United States, and Netflix recently reported 11.1 million U.S. subscribers as of September 30. link

May have to restart my Netflix account! Be nice to have netflix this way, and offering ALL studio content (unlike xbox live which can't offer Sony affiliated movies... hmmm, I wonder why? )

The instant Netflix on the 360 offers the exact same content as instant Netflix on the PC. Maybe Sony doesn't do instant Netflix at all?

My bad. I thought Sony had pulled all their content late last year from the Xbox Live Netflix service (around November 2008). But I'm reading some stuff now where it seems to have been resolved and Sony content is available again on the 360.

I have watched a few things on Netflix streaming, but that is about it. There are very few worthwhile movies to watch. I am not saying that other people might not find something that interests them, but for me, I am very glad I don't have to pay for it.

Netflix streaming is okay for watching some TV series, especially the old ones, and documentaries. It's terrible for movies and HD TV series. Try this. View an episode of Lost streamed. View same episode of Lost on Blu. Night and day difference.

I would like Netflix to charge a premium for streaming and drop their Blu-ray premium charge or at least lower it to $1.

Hi,

Yeah,... Agreed on the older TV shows deal. We sometimes are in the mood for some older TV episodes and that's what the streaming seems best for.

I laugh about the latest update to this story where it says M$ paid to keep netflix off the main menus of Wii and PS3. They throw money at trying to keep anyone from using products they don't make. This is because if you happen to use something not from microsoft it makes you realize you don't really need thier legendary lack of reliability built into everything.

That's a company that just needs to go away for the sake of everyone's quality of life.

Yeah, because every single movie and TV show in existence is available on Blu-ray after all, for that matter every movie and TV show is available on DVD currently so there can't be any reason to make use of this free streaming if you already have a Netflix account.

I wonder if HD upconversion will work on SD Netflix streams.

This is great news - and it will make for a convenient way to stream all those old movies that haven't been released on Blu-Ray yet.

Not to mention I won't have to buy a separate player for Netflix or subscribe to XBOX Live Gold.

Yeah, I set up TiVo to stream Netflix Saturday, started Gattaca and shut it off after 30 seconds. Watching Blus really makes you sensitive to poor quality audio/video. I'll try the TV show thing though.

Netflix also sent me a poll in email today...So how did you like the quality of Gattaca anyway?? They had 3 choices: excellent, good and completely unacceptable. I sent it back "completely unacceptable" They just need to invest a lot more money in their streaming capability, at least to 720p HD I mean cmon, unless it's just a marketing gimmick or something. I couldn't even tell Uma Thurman was a hottie

I've used the Netflix streaming on my laptop for the kids with certain things they like.

For Example... We rented "The Parent Trap" and the kids loved it but I didn't like it and didn't feel the need to own it. With Netflix streaming they can watch it whenever.

They send me that every time I watch a streamed movie. The quality usually is pretty poor.

Here's a good article on the Netflix encoding process:

http://blog.netflix.com/2008/11/enco...streaming.html

Hmm, I was wrong in my earlier post, they do use 720p (maybe Blu-Ray quality in a couple years). Gotta check things out since I have a 15 Mbps connection speed...PQ shouldn't be that bad...
