I was pretty much set on watching the price of the Sony 46" W-series LCD and waiting for a quality deal that included something else like blu-rays or a player, then purchasing it.
Then I started reading more about plasmas. I could easily afford a 54" S1 or 50" G10 at a similar price of the Sony LCD I was going to purchase. So this leaves me with a few questions that need answering. 1) Where can I read up on the core differences between the S1 and G10 Panasonic series? From what I have read so far, I believe the only differences are a THX mode in the G10, a PC Input and some sort of Viera something. 2) I believe I read the lack of THX mode in the S1 can be overcome by adjusting some settings. Is there a guide somewhere to do this and how hard is it? I am fairly competent with electronics but I haven't had to calibrate a television before. 3) Is the S1 internet capable? the G10? I have a Panasonic Blu-ray player, DMP-BD35. It receives firmware updates from the internet, if the TV isn't internet capable how do you apply firmware updates? 4) Do deals come along very often for these models of Panasonic? Such as deals that include a free blu-ray player or movies? I haven't been watching plasma deals at all so I don't know anything at this point. 5) Given my current setup, what would you do? Current setup: 27" Sylvania Tube TV; Onkyo TX-SR605 Receiver connected to 5.1 setup composed of Polk Monitor 50s, 30s and cs1; DMP-BD35K Blu-Ray Player; standard Time Warner cable |

Went with the 54" S1 from Sears. The deal was too good to pass up or downgrade the size from. The TV is larger than I wanted but everything smaller but still acceptable in size was equally as expensive due to the cash back and such.
Found out that the S1 can be calibrated pretty well using some of the service settings. Also found out that G10 has 48hz which makes it flicker for 24p content so not worth it for that. And the V10 fixes it but is expensive. All in all I think I will be happy with my purchase. Although have to get a larger TV stand now, I think. |
