Default Connecting TV & Blu-Ray to 5.1?

Hi, I have a panasonic 5 channel surround sound, toshiba tv, and bd-p1200. The back of the main unit for the surround sound does not have the 5.1 inputs on the back and nor does it have an optical/coaxil connection. Right now, I have it connected through 2 channel, is there anyway that I can hook the player up to enjoy Blu Ray movies through all five speakers instead of just the front two? Thank you.

Sounds like you have a home-theater-in-a-box (HTiB). Provide links to your Panasonic and we can figure it out for you. But if you say it doesn't have optical or coaxial inputs at all, no luck for you but to get a new HTiB or a proper surround setup.

yes, you won't be able to do anything with that. I suggest the Onkyo HTIB that I have from Circuitcity for like $470

Man that sucks! Sorry!!! Too bad they don't include aux inputs huh?
You could probably just pick up a upgraded reciever and keep your existing speakers.

I know I'm totally bummed. Is there an upgraded reciever that'll work that isn't going to cost me another $500? lol

Sure there is! I buy a lot of car stereo equipment and other things from www.etronics.com, never had a problem since the 5 years I've used them. Cheap too.

or better yet. I'd go with this one if you don't want to speed a lot.
http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?...re=&catid=4118

Pioneer 7.1 channel
Has multi channel input lossless surround(5.1)
DTS ES 6.1 Discrete for some great sounding movies
a bunch of optical inputs for your electronics.

I think this would be your best bet.

If you want to keep your current speakers from the HTiB set and you don't want to spend over US$500, then get the Onkyo 605. It's the lowest priced next-gen receiver so far. You should be set for a while with that.

However, you should not throw away the main unit as you can still use it or sell it back. You also cannot use the wireless surround speaker feature as that is part of the HTiB design.

He doesn't want to spend $500 on another system... my guess is that he won't want to spend $500 on a receiver alone...

get a yamaha receiver and search your local flea markets and penny savers. you may not have a "penny saver," weekly flier, but i'm sure you have something similiar in your town. plus you'll save a lot of extra dollars going this route.
