Default When did you get your 1st home theater?

Simply put, what film media did you first start your home theater with. Not just a TV and say a VCR but a real (In your own opinion) home theater.

Mine was a brand new Philips Magnavox 5.1 ??????WATT home theater in the box. It was "ONE" of the first that came out. retail at the time was around $300-$400 it didn't even have DTS tech in it and the highest input/ouput was optical. It worked at the time. I rememebr the frist tiem I got it I was so excited. adn the soudn for what i had was awesoem. Better then stereo style listening. And that was just a few years after DVD came to the consumer. I picked up DVD real fast. NOW it's BLU all the way.

I started with an HTiB, 5-disc DVD changer from Panasonic and a 48" Mitsubishi rear projection wide-screen HDTV that could actually change resolution between 480p, 720p and 1080i.

First Philips Magnavox HTiB I hope you mean. HTiB have been around since the 90s when pro logice ruled the stereo world. I remember my dad was all excited in 96' when he got his RCA HTiB. Wow, good times.

1996

My first VHS Hi-Fi machine (Zenith), Sony Pro-Logic receiver with Sony fronts, center and Realistic Minimus 7 surrounds. Only had a 20" Zenith CRT, though.

Still, it was the hit of all my friends to come over for movies.

As for me. It was the good old 'prime' days of DVD. I received my first HT way back in 2002. I was all of 12 and in 7th grade. Yes, for a kid at that time, it was big deal. Especially since I didn't know it could get so much better *memory flash forward to now*. It was a good old Kenwood HTiB and it served me well for a little under 5years. Throw in a decent 27" CRT APEX 'flat screen' tvs and I was set. My god that TV was heavy, but it had some of the best colors that I can remember, but I know I was wrong . Then came my Sharp HDTV that I got at the beginning of 2007. Then came Blu-ray...

And now I'm broke...

Started off in Sept. 08 with my 46" TV and PS3 and a few blu's, and by black friday I had 2 Polk R50's and a PSW10. Then I succumbed to upgrade-itis and now I have 180+ blu's and a pretty good 5.1 system that I'm in love with!

My parents never really got the 5.1. We had a huge (70 in toshiba) tv that lasted 15 years. I purchased the first home theater for myself when I moved out for blu-ray. Love it

If a home theatre has to be more than a TV and a media player, then I would have to say never. I have gone through several TVs and media players though. RCA TV with Beta/VCR, Sony Flat Screen Tube TV with DVD/VHS, and now Sony LCD HDTV with PS3 Blu Ray Player.

Can you add a "never" or "still don't" option to the poll?
