PS3 1.9 Update

Looking forward to this. Although I can't even tell what some of those short descriptions mean.

• Ability to rearrange games on the XMB
• Option menu now includes "eject disk"
• Press triangle to eject games/CDs/movies in the XMB
• XMB backgrounds
• Change the folder classification
• Emoticons
• Change CD output to 44.1/88.2/176.4kHz
• Force 24Hz output for Blu-ray over HDMI
• Change PS3 video settings in-game
• "Bit Mapping" in the "Music Setting"
• Save AVCHD type animations from a Memory Stick
• Change settings like upscaling while playing PS and PS2 games
• Add bookmarks
• Web browser security function in the browser's tool section
• Avatar moves during audio visual chat

Do they upscale DVD's yet, my cousin has just bought one and he's looking forward to that update.

Upscaling came with 1.8 update.

they added upscaling back in update 1.8

Yes the PS3 already does upscaling with the current update that is out now for the PS3.

Umm...the current one. 1.82 currently...1.90 coming soon.

I think the 2.0 Update will be the one that gives the PS3 the capability of generating an electromagnetic impulse tuned so as to melt the chips reponsible for HD-DVD play on all HD-DVD players within a 3 kilometer radius of the PS 3 unit.

Great I was waiting for an update that alows a Background, change upsample settings for PS2/PS1 games, As some of the PS2 games I play are Widescreen it's a pain to change it to full screen (Normal is for 4:3, Full Screen is for 16:9). Custom soundtrack is amusing for a while but not nessary.

Your sayng that Blu-ray can't beat HD-DVD fair and square?

I think HD-DVD would need to have an EMP generator to kill off Blu-ray at this point, don't you think?

I totally agree. I play FFX on my PS3 now, and I can't change it to Normal from widescreen easily. How annoying. I hope that one of those updates fixes that.
I also wish I could get an adapter for a dual shock II controller to a USB so I could play FFXII and Guitar Hero and DDR on the PS3.

You can. With the 1.8 update, the old radioshack PS to USB adapters work now. My GH works great (with the exception of the whammy bar, that doesn't work on PS3 for some reason). I sold my DDR pads long ago, but I imagine they would work as well.

Also, concerning this update, I read about a power saving function (I'll go find it again and post the link after this). Does anyone know what this means? Maybe they will finally release a patch that automatically turns off the PS3 controller if it's inactive after a period of time, like a sleep function. That's one thing I know that I've been waiting for.

1080p24 force mode is a great addition and proof sony are listening to the consumer. Alot of happy people out there once they do this update.

I'm very interested in this. The PS3 just keeps getting better and better!

The really need to break up the games list - My list is getting fairly long - It would be nice to have demos and downloaded full games separated.
