No, the UK won't get the Sapphire Editions. Forrest Gump has already been out and it's not part of any series. The German release of Forrest Gump however is a Sapphire Edition. Braveheart is a Fox release in Europe so it can't be released in as a Sapphire Edition. Same for Universal which is a Universal release.

Basically Paramount aren't using the silly Sapphire names in the UK. With a few releases the UK has had different distributors but near enough exact same discs. Forrest Gump is exactly the same in the UK bar the slipcover (sad) and the Sapphire Tag (not sad).

I hope not. I'm only interested in the data on the disc and watching the film. I do appeciate nice artwork though and realise people enjoy collecting stangely shaped and colourful cardboard.
I think distributors need to concentrate on low prices and quality. Which it seems they are doing as Bluray UK is an impressive market so far thanks to the online competition from those dodgy non-UK tax paying little formerly German-occupied islands pock-marked around the UK. A good example Fight Club for £9.95 http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/1...b/Product.html from Jersey. |

The Australian release of Forrest Gump will carry the Sapphire Series tag as confirmed here. Like others say though, ultimately it's the content of the discs that is most important. |

Well, for one the thread is about the Sapphire Series and two titles you mentioned wouldn't be in the series if there was one due to being released by other studios so that was just me staying on topic, and two, because a different studio has release rights it's often the case that special features aren't the same across releases. If the special features we're produced by the US studio (Paramount), often the other studio (Fox in this case) does not have access to them and that's why Braveheart has different features.

Varying distributors does not result in a lack of or different extras. Usually they are licensed out to the company distributing if they vary between countries.
