Default Have you ever seen this weirdness on a Blu-ray disc?

[Show spoiler]

[Show spoiler]

[Show spoiler]

These little puncture marks, located on the underside of the disc:

1. What are they?
2. What causes them?
3. Is the data located in the section of the disc where they appear (close to the spindle hole)?
4. Will they lead to playback issues (so far no)? What about those air bubbles in the plastic layer?

Sorry about all the questions, but I was looking through a thread here about disc rot, and it got me thinking.

Is it an import disc? Maybe it was cheaply manufactured and those are air bubbles.

If the disc plays fine I would not worry about it

Is that the only disc you have like that?

If so then it was probably a one time thing I think ~ The one & only

Now you will have everyone on earth checking their discs

The only such disc in my collection...Reading about disc rot can make one kind of edgy.

The problem with the disc rot has been cured I am sure. From the pics I saw you post look like tiny indents or tiny bubbles & if the disc plays fine then I myself would not worry about it

Default Don't think it's a problem.

Yeah, it just looks like some manufacturing byproduct, like the coating cooled too fast or something happened right at the end of manufacture (debris?). Like when you get waves in the clear plastic of the case.

It won't affect play because content doesn't start until further out on the disc. While program does start inside near the ring and moves out (opposite from a vinyl LP) there's nothing at the shiny, reflective area around the hole. It's one big spiral of information that starts where it looks a little gray.

I actually have that on my copy of Aliens from the anthology set. Plays fine so I never thought of it again until now.

Ah, so that's where it starts...good to know. And it does make sense that something might've happened during the cooling process.

Comforting I'm not alone here...though I hope you won't think about it again after today.

Seen it before, but can't recall on what. I'm not goin through my hundreds of discs looking, esp. since it could've been on a library or rental disc I'll never find anyway. Whatever disc had it played fine.

I've had numerous like that. Also on the outer edge. It's nerve racking. My latest was Tennebre. It has dimples and raised spots. It went ignored in the Tennebre thread. Movie plays fine, I wonder the long term playability though.

As said above, if it plays fine I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Those are speed holes. They make the blu ray spin faster.
