Australia aust blu ray cover layouts

i dont like the layouts of the covers of blu rays and dvd in australia.
those godawful rating marks and the bland back layouts that fox and warners do.

i am buying usa blurays or dvds on ebay and other sites that import from usa as many as i can esp now that teh aus dollar has recovered.

I'm fine with them. Sure the ratings logos can be an annoyance, but I've seen some art for releases here which is IMHO far superior to the US releases. Then again, I'm in the minority in that I also prefer the standard width cases (14mm) rather than the US ones.

Some countries require that the certificates be displayed on the package because for some countries the certificates are not recommendations. They are legal markings that a store must adhere to.

In the US, ratiings are a guideline and films are not required to have them. In the UK, certificates are required from the BBFC and no video or video game may be sold without them.

Yeah, quite a few studios use a template for their releases. Ultimately the back and spine of the art does then look generic, but it also looks uniform which I have no problem with. For me as long as the art on the front is good I'm happy. Thankfully now all the "Beyond High Definition" type stuff on the front of the covers is far less prominent now than it was when the format first came in.

each company should be diffeent and not mak a product look like its from one whole parent company. they each should do thier own things like the us ones do..
i can forgive the rating marking if it was smaller and less bright

I personally think they should just have the spine sized logo on the front and then have the one with the full details (strong level violence, language etc markers) on the back. It would then still be clearly identifiable what the rating is, and those seeking further information need only turn over to the back for the full explanation.

I'll give you that they're ugly, but an invasion? That's taking it a bit far.

As for inferior versions, it's hardly got to do with what "the man" says we're allowed to have. There are a handful of cases where that happens and that's it. Most of the time it's the fact that we're a population of 20 million or so, rather that 13 times that like the US. Naturally that means less units are moved and therefore there's simply not a viability to offer many things that are elaborate because only a handful would sell. It's got a lot more to do with economics than it has to do with censorship.

The whole point is really not too much of an issue though, because most titles are regionless and therefore you can import. With the way the dollar is it's good value too. If you have such an issue with the Aussie releases and prefer the artwork, content, case size etc you should just import.

Which is basically the same in every country. For example Australia is the only country to get the uncut version of Casino Royale. Yes, we have the best dvd and blu of the film.

Is this the only film on blu-ray where our version is the "best". I originally had the US version (actually I still do) but I got the Australian version after hearing that our version is the uncut version.

I'm sure there are more (and have heard of several other' but none come to mind at the moment). The differences in Casino Royale though I think are fairly minimal, as I first saw the film in an England cinema (where I lived at the time), and then saw it again in Australia, though I didn't notice a difference.

One thing I may add, I don't mind the logos on the case work, but can we get rid of the "what are you really burning", anti-piracy adds etc from blus and dvds. I bought the bloody film, I don't want to have to watch an anti-piracy add before I can watch my film. Also trailers that automatically play before you can play the movie, i'm all for trailers bieng put in the special features area of a disc, but give the consumer the choice of whether they watch them or not.

How is it that they can remember to put all that other specification info on the cover and in tiny print no less , but don't put the running time of a movie and the region code??

Every single Australian release I own clearly states the running time. The only ones that state region code on the art are releases like Fox ones which are locked to B. All the others I own that don't say anything are actually multi-region and therefore region coding labelling is irrelevant and unnecessary.
