Giant Robo: The Animation - The Day the Earth Stood Still

This 7 part OVA that is an 90's anime remake/homage of the live action 60's Tokusatsu show Giant Robo/Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot would be my insant choice for Blu-ray release. OAVs are direct to video releases that have a higher budget than tv series but maybe not as much as a feature. This show took 6 years to release and the polish in the retro anime has some of my favorite visuals for the genre. For me the biggest draw besides the visuals is the opera infused soundtrack from Masamichi Amano with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_Robo_(OVA)

I own the DVD boxset ~ it is out in English and cheap.

I have the bluray from Japan which came with the original English translation (which is far, far superior to the later one). The bluray quality is fantastic, and it's a huge step up over the DVDs. Assuming they use the same master, you're in for a treat, at a much lower price than what I paid for it. !

No Gin-Rei specials on the discs, separate licence so maybe another time? For now, I'm happy to have the series on blu ray, finally!

They were going to be included as they were listed on the original announcement, but the discs got so packed with extras that Discotek decided to release the specials separately later on.
