Question Would it be worth it!!!

Hey guys long time since I've posted but I have come across a Sony VPH-1040Q CRT and was wondering if it would be worth the $75 dollar investment....As far as I have seen the tubes are in great shape and also displays a descent image, after a little tweaking im sure it would look great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think so. I don't fell there is any need to buy anything but a hd projector, anything less well live you underwhelmed (especially a projector from the late 80's/early 90's). You can pick up very good projectors for around $600 now, i'd just recommend saving a little bit.

I saw a HD70 (720p) for 300$ on the local Kijiji... So, keep looking.

I say "YES" it's worth it...... but not necessarily for main-movie and Blu-ray watching....... If you play video games, or have a "man-room" where you play poker etc.... it'd be completely worth it to paint a wall, add a nice frame (someone used molding that looked FANTASTIC) and then watch some football/baseball, or the occasional DVD....

But if you're asking if it'd be worth it to use as your main display for watching Blu-rays..... I would say "NO"

I have an HD projector, and if I found a CRT projector for $75 I would buy it in a heart-beat if my theater-room was large enough for it..... just so I could run all Over-the-air and satellite material through it.

If you prefer the analog characteristic of CRTs and want that in HD, look around for CRTs with larger tubes (say 8 or 9 inchers), there may be some CRTs with 8 inch tubes for aruond $1000 on Ebay (note you may need to know the freight shipping price) and buy an RGBHV to HDMI or component card/adapter.

I'd recommend taking a look at THE CRT setup guide by Guy Kuo here. Remember that your CRT pj is quite old and basic, so it does not support all of the options and features from this guide, so you need to take from it what you can. Good luck
