Default Getting around a work filter?

Is there anyway to do this? I come in to work today and can't get on anything except this site and one other one I go to. I can't even get on Amazon or check my checking account Somehow I can still get on here but no pics work and most links I click on don't work. No blogs, movie, video game, streaming video, shopping or even AVS Forum work.

I was not in the mood for this today....

You might be able to use a proxy server, if they're not all blocked that is. If you can get on Google you can search for them and then just keep trying them until you find one that works. Be advised though, that it's often a disciplinary/termination offense to circumvent your job's IT security measures.

That's sucks dude. I'm in the same boat as you. My workplace has recenlty blocked all email access (AOL,GMAIL,HOTMAIL ETC). I can't go on video game sites either, and I think most companies are going to do the same thing.

At least I'm still able to view most sites including Amazon.

You can try going through a proxy, they might be blocking those too though. Just an FYI though, all of your traffic is logged and usually reported. Sometimes these reports are given to supervisors upon request.

At my work all social networking, video game, and proxy sites are blocked. Most personal email sties are blocked too, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, and even my Charter.

I don't blame them though.

As long as this site and Amazon work I'm fine.

What sucks though is that Bash.org is blocked too.

Ugh. It's just aggravating when I can't even get on something like Amazon where I do most of my shopping for things. What the hell is 'bad' about Amazon? It wouldn't be so bad if I was only here for 7 or 8 hours a day, but after working 11 hours a day I don't really feel like getting on the computer at home after being on one all day...

The 'bad' part is that it is not work related.

And like Jason mentioned all traffic is tracked. And when you try to go to one of those 'blocked' sites, it is tagged and associated to your network ID. I saw a bunch of people get fired from a Government agency because they spent over 70% of their day surfing the net. Over 50% was going to 'adult' related sites. I spanned the gamut of entry level workers to high level managers. They implemented the software for 6-9 months to monitor traffic patterns before starting to block sites. The ironic thing was that they announced that they would be doing it and no one took the warning serious, I guess.

The newer monitoring software out there really is amazing. It can be used in conjunction with how much time and how much money they are losing by comparing that time spent online to the employees salary.

Well if anyone is stupid enough to look at adult sites while at work they should be fired. That's one thing I've never done because I know better, I mean 'duh'.

Agreed...if your employment is blocking sites, do you really think it's a smart decision to try and get around it?

+1000

Just get an internet capable phone or a netbook if you really want to go to sites that are being blocked.

if you can install AOL, logging into AOL usually allows you to circumvent most of the "websense" filtering

You mean... people should be doing work... at WORK?

Dude, you just blew my mind.

And yup, I'm totally sarcastic, do your friggin work at work, check your Amazon account at home, also, quit your foul whining, and call your mother {but not from your work phone}.

This will probably be a thought that will be attacked vigorously by many but here goes...

You are at work, spending company time on the computer looking at Blu-ray.com and other web sites without the company's OK. Bottom line is: this is theft. Stealing from a company that has hired one to do a job not to spend company time doing non-company work.

I might be old fashion but even in modern times it is still stealing no matter how one looks at it.

I agree for the most part, however, there have been studies that show that people who take internet breaks are actually MORE productive than their counterparts. The internet break is the new smoke break.

What about people who smoke and use the internet too much?
