No. Although, this film seems to be literally changing people's lives. Call it what you want...like it or hate it...people are giving this film power and are paying lots of money to go see it.

The usual drop is about 60% {ish} for week 2.

I went to it yesterday with my 13 year old cousin and the theater wasn't even half full, and it wasn't a huge theater either. It was also playing on another screen so that might have explained why the theater wasn't very full, but I would have expected more people at the movie on Thanksgiving day. Interestingly, The Blind Side was playing in the biggest theater and it sold out 20 minutes before show time, so it wasn't like people weren't going to the movies.

I would guess the movie makes around $55 million for the 5 day weekend. It will get a lot of repeat business from the teenage girls. My cousin had already seen it once and most of her friends had seen it multiple times, and she saw the first Twilight movie 6 times in the theater, which she said was about the average of her friends.

I dunno, but compared to last week it will fall a lot. yet I don't see anything really challenging it for the number 1 spot this week, just Fantastic Mr.Fox (Which I really hope gets to number 1 this weekend, and I know most of you lot will love it.)

Strange considering it is thanksgiving.

(another note, I reckon Christmas Carol will go up this weekend)

Ouch. 70% drop in its second weekend down to $42 million, a whooping $100 million less than its opening weekend. No legs at all for this one, even with the extended holiday weekend. It might finish with $300 million domestic.

I don't think that the studio would complain if it made 6 times it's budget domestically.

I'm not sure I know anyone who would.

Actually, the big summer movies like Trek, Transformers, G.I. Joe, etc. had second weekend drops of around 40-60% which is standard given the sizes of the opening of each film. Anything near 65-70% is just not good by any means and shows a definite lack of legs for the coming weeks. Of course it's made a killing, but I never said otherwise.

How many threads are needed for this movie? Maybe we should have a thread with a poll about how many threads are needed.

It is not just kids who are fueling this movie. Like it or not the franchise is HUGE and not every movie that is not directed at you is crap. That is very shortsighted.

It is a pile of crap, but when i saw it the theater was full of couples and not just teenage couple. I'd say 60% of the theater was over 30. If kids have short attention spans then i'm wondering how they get through this movie. It's over two hours and hardly any action.
Btw, when i took my kids to see Fantastic Mr. Fox (great movie) this weekend, i noticed there was a poster for the next twilight movie, Eclipse, in the lobby. Release date was summer of 2010. They're cashing in before the fad wears out. Anyone have any predictions as to when the vampire thing will fade away? I predicted reality shows would die 7 years ago and look how that turned out.

You got me. No, my wife is into all things vampire so i feel i'm one of the few twilight haters that have actually SEEN the movies. Kinda hard to avoid when there's 42 threads on the subject.

Canada *Ahem*

New Moon did better than any of us who dislike the franchise may have liked or expected. Accept this fact and move on.
