Default Ride @ Terminal West, Atlanta, GA 5/8/15

My favorite band of the 1990s, Ride, reunited this past year, and they have been touring a few cities here on these shores. Last night's Atlanta show at the Terminal West venue was my first time seeing them in concert, and they delivered an incredible set, with several songs from their album, Nowhere, which is my favorite album of the 1990s.

Setlist...

Polar Bear
Seagull
Twisterella
Unfamiliar
Cool Your Boots
Black Nite Crash
OX4
Dreams Burn Down
Time of Her Time
Chrome Waves
Paralysed
Taste
Vapour Trail
Drive Blind

Encore:
Tomorrow Never Knows (The Beatles cover)
Leave Them All Behind

Here are some photos that I took...

Oh yeah, I've been playing Ride's Nowhere and Going Blank Again pretty much nonstop, because I've been on cloud nine since seeing this show. I'm also listening to their earlier EPs a lot.

Fantastic Ride shots. We were tempted to go to Shaky Knees just to see them even though we had tickets to the NYC show. Actually Shaky Knees had a pretty good lineup.

Ride is far and away my favorite band. What's weird is I discovered Nowhere in the early 1990s and loved it, but it was only in my CD rotation (ugh) for about a year. Going Blank Again was mostly off my radar except for Leave them All Behind. Same for the EPs, except for Drive Blind, which I didn't like much.

Nowhere stuck with me throughout the 1990s. I just kept coming back to it. It wasn't until the early 00s that I explored Going Blank Again and fell in love with it. Now I even love Carnival of Light. I'll never like Tarantula and I've tried.

My favorite Ride song is now Chelsea Girl, which I'm surprised they didn't play in Atlanta because it is usually a live staple. They finished off the set in NYC, and it was the most memorable moment for me because I belted the lyrics right along with them.

Here are some short video snippets from the NYC show. I'm dealing with an injury so could only hold the shots for about 30-60 secs.

Drive Blind with a lot of noise that went on for about 5 minutes.

Here is Chelsea Girl from the SD show:

And how amazing was Tomorrow Never Knows? It'd be one thing to do a straightforward cover, but they really made it their own song.

They said that they'll mix up the setlist for the fall tour, so maybe more covers will be in store.

I heard after the fact that Ride had initially intended to play "Chelsea Girl" and "Like a Daydream" for our encore, but they scraped them in favor of the Beatles cover. Too bad, because "Like a Daydream" is my favorite Ride song, but the Beatles cover (which happens to be my favorite Beatles song), really was excellent.

That's strange. They pretty much always play Chelsea Girl last. Maybe it was a time thing. That's one of the things I don't like about festival sets is they are generally shorter and bands have to finagle their setlist to fit the alloted time.

The show that I saw was actually a couple of nights before the Shaky Knees Festival. Ride came to Atlanta early, and played at Terminal West, a small venue in west Atlanta. I'm not a festival person these days, so I jumped at the chance to see them headline a small venue. All in all, it was a terrific show in every way.

Don't know much about the band, but I LOVE that venue. Last show we saw there was Pete Yorn acoustic.
